Job Interview Question [!]

Quote  |  Reply

I have a job interview in exactly an hour! So I need to be well-prepared. I have an urgent question though:

When do you shake their hand? Like if you are told to go to their office by the actual interveiwer, do you shake their hand before walking to the room (like right when you meet them), or after you've entered the room. And what do you say when you meet them right away?

* I'm going for a cashier interview by the way :) And I'm SUPER nervous right now!

I don't think it really matters when you shake his/her hand - as long as you do it. When you meet him/her, maybe you could say something like, "Good afternoon. Thank you for taking the time to see me/interview me." That sounds decent, I think.

Good luck!

I think they usually initiate everything. but to answer your question, I would say before, when you just meet them, that's usually when you shake someone's hand.

Shake his/her hand as soon as you meet them...otherwise I think it would look weird if you would wait until you walked into the room.  Also, make sure you shake his/her hand at the end and like infiniteheart said, thank them for the interview.  Be firm, and take it from me, try to keep the "uh" and "um" at a minimum!  I have to work on that!

Good luck!

keep a copy of your experience in front of you to reference to when asked about it

either time to shake hands

You will shake their hand as soon as you meet them- when they pick you up from reception.

Thank you soo much!

Also, have a good firm handshake.  Nothing is worse than a limp, "dead fish" like handshake!  Eww!  Good luck with the interview!

in this office I dont shake anyone's hand.....especially during the cold months... i might carry something home but normally if it went well I will shake the applicant's hand at the end of the interview.

Omg, I didn't get to shake his hand in the beginning, because he was leading

me to the office. (I didn't get a chance to). But I did shake at the end.  :/ I don't

think I'm getting the job D:
