I just jogged a mile without stopping!!!!

Quote  |  Reply

I can do other cardio (step, indoor cycling, other machines) no problem, but I have a mind-set about jogging. I just couldn't do it. My goal is to jog/run the kids' mile with my children and I started on the treadmill. I finally got so I could do that.

Then I took it outside. Much harder without the spring of the treadmill, add the wind, the cold, my neighbors watching, etc., etc.

Well, after a couple of tries where I stopped to walk a little, I finally did it! I JOGGED A MILE OUTSIDE WITHOUT STOPPING this morning!! I AM going to be able to do this on April 5!! I am so excited I can't stand it.

My children are going to be so surprised when I line up with them!

Congratulations! That's just so awesome! I hate running with every fiber of my body--always have. And now I have bad knees, so I have a built-in excuse for not doing it (my treadmill work consists of very brisk walking), but I admire anyone who can! Isn't it great to see your body respond to the training and conditioning you're doing? I'm sure you're kids will be so proud and excited to have you run with them!

From one runner to another, GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

: D       feels good, huh?

Congrats!  Isn't it just the best feeling in the world?

Congrats! I am trying to do the same - I can walk/run about 3.5 miles in 40 minutes now, knees hurting and all. I am 215 lbs with a large frame, so I have a lot more to carry.

My wife and I are running the Dole Great Race 5K on April 5th in our area. I hope the treadmill is preparing me for the outdoor run, even though I try to do some incline running for hills. I also bike 30 or so miles a week, so I am hoping to finish the 5K with a decent time.

The most important thing is running is now something I look forward to, even when I don't feel like it and finishing a race will be sweet success. Not to mention giving to a good cause at the same time.

Good Luck!

Congratulations! That is such a great milestone. Community runs are so much fun!  And once you reach this milestone, you know you can reach others if you want to, and it's just a matter of time and practice.

Congratulations! I've been starting to train for 5k's the last few months, and was super stoked to run a mile w/o stopping again! I haven't taken it outside yet (a bit too cold for me still, I'm a wussy), but I can go 2 miles on the treadmill now at a pretty slow jog!! Your kids will be stoked when you get out there with them!

Yay!

...and I just *thought* about jogging a mile without stopping.   Which is the scariest thing I've thought about all day... :)  I'm even breathing hard..

I know how you feel! I hate running, but one summer I got dragged to cross country camp with my little bro every day. At first I had to walk the last 1.5 of their smallest route- the 2.5 mile (gulp) and then I learned to pace myself, and got to three and then (woah!) 4 mile point. Then I quit (yeah... dumb I know)

Now I just went out for the first time in a long time and managed to run about a mile and walk about a 1/2 mile total at random points when I got tired. Gotta keep working!

Congrats!!!
