I have been trying to get motivated to go and work out but I find it so much easier to stay at home and jog in place for 20 mins. I also do 100 pushups and day and some ab and leg exercises with 10lb weights( I am working my way up) for about 10 mins or so each day, alternating days, but I do the pushups and jogging everyday. Anyway, I guess my question is, is this enough for weight loss/any muscle toning? I am not overweight but I would like to look and feel better. I eat about 1350-1500 cals a day and I am almost 26 years old and around 5'3. Hope that this makes sense?! Any help would be appreciated and I am just looking for some direction to see if I am going the right way.
Thanks in advance!
Amy
This would interest me too! I would like to build up a little strength by jogging in place because it is still way too cold to jog outside and I'm a little self-conscious about jogging with the evil disciplined fit people watching while I'm this unfit!
Sounds like a really good plan though! Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks! Good luck to you, its so hard to stay motivated!
I jog in my house. Round and round the house like a teeny tiny track. At first I thought it was not as good as going out - and maybe is not quite as good. My house is very small so my stride has to be short. But I do get my heart rate up after about 10 minutes or so. In other words I have to work a little longer inside to get the same heart rate and since the pace is slower it takes me longer to burn the calories I would if I were jogging outside. But the job gets done!
Hey thanks I am glad to know that you are doing that too. are you getting any good results?
Thats hard to say really. I prefer to be outside so I run indoors only when I can't leave the house for one reason or another. Today was one of those days (bizzard) so I ran indoors for about 1/2 hour. I do know that my over all stamina has increased. When I first started running I ran indoors so I would not scare the neighbors. I could only run for a few minutes at a time. Now I run outdoors on the local trails and I can run for about 1/2 hour before my legs scream.
But I am also over 40 and just started my new fit life a few weeks ago and quit smoking after 25 years too! Your mileage may vary with running indoors.
And for all those who say "isn't it boring?". Frankly, no it isn't. I turn on music or NPR just like any other run. My mind quiets down and I don't listen to the endless grind - just like any other run. There is no terrain variety. But no scary dogs, dangerous traffic, smog or "undesirable people" to deal with either.
Indoor running has it's uses.
I did 10 mins today! non-stop! so proud! I know it's nothing but I'm getting there!
I run in my house 20 minutes a day. Sometimes in place. I'm sure I'd get more done running outside but with a 4 year old in the house, I can't leave him. I have no one else to watch him but his 9 year old sister and I can't leave her alone either. I tried taking them with me once. It worked great for about 2 minutes. Then it was "I'm tired.....you're too fast....carry me..." So now I just run in the house and sometimes they run behind me but if they are tired....they just wander off.
That is great for both of you! I really like it too! Sullysbunny, have you seen any results from jogging in the house?
THanks,
Amy
I'm burning calories, so something must be going right. I really haven't seen any results yet , well other than my stamina increasing. However.....I was only eating about 800 cals a day and lost quite a bit of weight so I've been increasing my intake and trying to exercise more. I figure with my increase in calories it will take me awhile to see some results but man it is so good to eat again. I figure as long as I'm doing something to get the heart rate up and get moving it's better than nothing. But I do notice that I have more energy.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
