jogging shoes asics?

Quote  |  Reply

i've been searching around for a good pair of jogging shoes.i jog mainly on rough and hard terrains,so i'm worried about the condition of my kneecaps in the future. Several people have mentioned that jogging isn't too good as it's rough on the joints, especially when i start out young.

Is asics one of the better brands out there?suitable for jogging?

Try the nike dart, most comfy running shoes I've ever had.

You need to find shoes that work well with your feet. Your arch, foot width, pronation, heel strike - all will be a factor in choosing good shoes (and some would say don't use shoes at all).

Go to a good shoe store, where they will actually watch you walk, jog, or run, and get a shoe that will work for you.

Asics, Brooks, Saucony, all make good running shoes.  However, I would recommend you go to a store where they will fit you for shoes according to your stride and gait, which will go a long way in preventing injuries and pain.  What may be a good shoe for one person could be totally wrong for the next.  You need to find the shoe that fits YOU.

Do you run trails?  There are shoes made specifically for that.

Go to a running store. I made the mistake of just going with a pair of nike running shoes and now I constantly get blisters on the side of my big toe from the shoes rubbing and I always have really sore shins. Plus I havent got more than 100-150 miles in them and the cusioning is already compressed.

running is actually one of the few sports found the STRENGTHEN joints, like knees. nike has a feature on your website that lets you find "the shoe for you" based on your stride and running surface. if you want a good running shoe, be prepared to spend close to $100, unless of course you find a good sale!

if you have access to a local running store, GO! they will watch you run and be able to recommend a shoe for you.

also, if you go to the shoe store to get fitted, you can just get a recommendation from them and search amazon or zappos.com for the same shoe the store recommended.

a friend bought a pair of £12 trainers from lidl.. trained for and ran a marathon.. with no adverse affects at all.. (tho he practically has no instep so perhaps its easier to find cheap shoes that are comfortable as he needs less support - just a thought)

find a shoe that is comfortable for your foot and get running :)

thanks for ur replies...however,there aren't any shoe stores near my place whrere they will watch me run,jog or run and then find a good pair for me. Sure, they will take my foot measurement and recommend certain shoes "latest technology bla bla bla" but thats about it. I visited several stores, but to be honest, the sales assitants don't seem really knowledgable. a majority of them are part-time workers, who only work there to earn some money before college starts. They usually repeat the most obvious things. Thats why i started this topic, coz you guys will probably know much more compared to those sales assitants.

Try Runner's World.

I run with Asics 2140 and they are so incredibly comfortable I absolutely love them!  I was getting a lot of ankle pain in my old shoes and the new ones got rid of it... however that was because I went to a store and got fitted, and the asics happened to be right for me.  I have normal arches and somewhat overpronate.  The friend I went to get fitted with had extremely high arches and pretty serious overpronation.  My hubby has extremely flat feet. The point is, everyone's feet are different, and it is impossible for us to tell you what will work for you.

Places like foot locker aren't going to know anything about what shoes you may need.  If you live in a small town that doesn't have a real running store, perhaps you could find one in a nearby city and make a trip some weekend?  It's really worth it!

I was in the same boat as you..no running stores. Only the big box store and no one in there even knows what at stability shoe means. If you have a video camera and can have someone video tape you running...your feet from behind and coming at the camera, you may be able to tell if your ankles roll in, out or stay neutral. Based on that you can decide if you need a stability if they roll in, or a neutral shoe if mostly stay the same thru your stride. The way to tell if a shoe is stability or not is a big gray area along the arch on the inside of the shoe.  I tried Asics but had lots of shin pain...Finally got a knowledgable person to watch me and they recommended a higher stabilty shoe...Mizuno Alchemy 9. Pain is gone now.

Also call some sports med offices and podietry offices..someone at one of them may do gait analysis.

It's different for everyone so that's a tough call. For me Asics Gel Kayano are the best. I am a big pigeon-toed and pronate. You could try ordering from a running shoe catalog, and calling them to get their advice before you order. The way I found mine originally was going to a running speciality store to get fitted/evaluated but I see that's not an option for you.

I ran Division 1 track in college and we were provided with Asics as the sneaker of choice for both track training and cross training. I absolutely swear by them but I would suggest going to get fitted at a running store and see what they say. Hey...its free and you may find the perfect sneaker for you!

I highly recommend Mizuno Wave Creation, but you should go to the store and try on a few different brands to see which one fits your foot better.  Good Luck!!

okay, i will keep searching for a proper shoe shop with assistants who actually know what they're talking about. i live in a big city in malaysia, near all the major shopping centres. It's just pretty rare to find  shoe shops which analyses ur jogging style etc..
