Will jogging and walking help make my thighs not touch!?
I've been doing the cycle but I have noticed that my legs have only gotten bigger not SKINNER! Will jogging and walking make it so that my thighs won't touch? I want my my legs not to touch till the knee and all the way up none of that skinny above the knee and then bulk out towards the thigh, I hope you can help me!
I have the same exact issue! When I first started working out regularly, I was kind of scared of the treadmill because I had little no no endurance. Therefore, I spent my cardio sessions on the bike. I already had muscular thighs (I was a dancer and a figure skater beforehand), but boy did that thing bulk them up! After that, I switched to the elliptical. Same thing happened. I asked around, and people told me that the best solution would be jogging/running, so that's exactly what I started to do. It took awhile, but eventually I built up my endurance and now I can to at 6.0 for 45 mins w/o stopping. I think my quads maybe got a little smaller, but no huge difference. The main thing though is that I didn't gain any muscle. Also, what makes your thighs touch it inner thigh fat...which can only go away by burning it. I guess it all depends on the person as to what your muscles will do. I, for instance, build and maintain muscle rather easily. Some people can't build muscle to save their lives. But the bottom line is stop cycling or whatever you're doing and start jogging instead. Also remember that it takes fat loss to create space in between your thighs. You're not alone. =P
My thighs have definatley gotten smaller from running. When I stand with my feet shoulder width apart they dont touch. I do have muscular thighs though, I'm not talking olympic sprinter legs or anything. I think they are looking good though. It's my problem area.
omg, i am in the same boat. actually my personal trainer asked me last night during our session if i was a runner b/c i had such big thighs (very out of proportion with the rest of my body). he didn't say it as an insult- it seemed to me that he thought the muscles were a good thing. however, i don't run so it was a bit awkward. my thighs aren't jiggly but i would really like to reduce their size- although i understand you can't spot reduce. i can only hope that as i lose weight, some of the weight will come from that area! if anyone has suggestions, i'd welcome them gladly!
well then i guess the solution is to do mainly running/jogging for our cardio. sigh...i hate my thighs... =(
If your thighs are lean to begin with, hard running biking etc. will make them bigger with muscularity. If on the other hand they are fatty to start with, the loss of fat with overall weight loss will FAR more than compensate for muscle gain.
In general, if thighs are touching, they will separate with weight loss, irrespective of the means one takes to lose that weight.
Man, I wish!! Running is my primary activity and my thighs more than touch. I easily run 4-5 miles every other day and walk a good 30-60 minutes day. The general consensus is that you can't control where you lose fat from. I lose it from my thighs LAST and maybe you are the same way. However, running is very very good for your heart and in building endurance, so I reccomend it regardless...
The only time my thighs didn't touch was when I was at an unhealthy low BMI (15.something). I'm still at a lower BMI (18ish), but my thighs do touch.
I've just accepted that if I don't want to be passing out all the time (which I was when I was at that low BMI), my thighs will touch.
EDIT: Wanted to add that my body fat is very low- around 13-14%... sometimes it just isn't possible to have the "untouching" thighs.
I have accepted that I am a woman who is suppose to have a higher body fat for menstration and childbirth and therefore my thighs are meant to touch.
A goal of not having your thighs touch is unfair to the female form and very hard to achieve.
from what everyone is saying about running, maybe a good diet will do rather than exercise.
Do you know who Cathe Fredrich is? She is a fitness goddess! She has her own line of work out dvds and, I believe, her show runs on FIT tv most days of the week.
I have never seen a more fit person in my life. She is hot hot!
Her thighs touch. Yes they do.
I used to be bothered about my "touchy thighs" too. Even when I was abnormally thin, my thighs touched and I hated it.
But then I saw Cathe. Her thighs touch. HER thighs touch!
Yay! The most beautiful body and her thighs touch.
I guess I am just saying - we are as we are. We can lose weight. We can get fit.
But our thighs will touch because we are made that way.
I hope you've got your answer Hailey. Please?
Though I also want mine to stop touching, but I'd settle for a little less mass.
Before I lost the nagging 16 pounds, my thighs kind of touched. They were wider than they'd been in the past, and I don't know..the shape had changed somehow.
With weight loss and some toning..they no longer touch at all. They say you can't spot reduce, but as I lost weight and did the squats and lunges..i have to say I saw a huge difference. They feel firm and look a lot slimmer.
I don't think it's wasted time to work at toning them..the muscles definitely respond when they're used enough, I think.
Running is awesome for cardio..wouldn't hurt to throw in some toning exercises too.
Don't worry..they'll shape up!
like some people on this, i had to be at like 100 lbs (im 5'4) for my thighs to look lean. its so unfair. I wish we could all just meet because im tired of being surrounded with skinny chix
I see this thread time and time again but as far as I'm concerned thighs that touch are part of being an adult woman. I don't know anyone over 18 who has a BMI over 18.5 and thighs that don't touch. Like hips and breasts whether you like yours or not you can't get rid of them.
At some point in your teens you change shape, you can't stop it and trying will drive you mad. The up side is it turns out a woman's shape when looked after and loved looks awesome.
It's different for men...my thighs used to touch, and with weight loss and walking they don't touch anymore. Now I have bony knees....
For me it was other obnoxious fat deposits that wouldn't leave. Waistline, thighs, great. But those love handles seem to be here to stay. Smaller but still obvious.
