joined a gym and stopped losing....help
So I joined a gym about 8 weeks ago and have stopped losing weight. I thought that more exercise would increase my metabolism. It definately made me hungrier. I go to the gym about 3 times a week. On non gym days I have been eating about 1300 calories, so on gym days I would increase to 1500 to make up for some of what I am burning. I have tried zig zagging. I seem to be shrinking in size, but not weight. I know i am gaining muscle, and losing fat but I thought by now I would see a drop in the scale number too. I am stuck at about 210 lbs and am so close to being under 200lbs that i want that number to go down quicker. I am not sure what i should do, up calories more?, less? or just keep doing what I am doing and hope this plateau will end?
I'm not the authority here, but I've heard that when your muscles are stressed for the first time in a while or ever, they hold water for up to 2 or 3 weeks as a kind of healing process.
So I'd say wait it out.
Well I agree to wait it out.. seeing big loss or not.. you are doing your body a favor by getting exercise.
But no, people are making excuses for you when they say muscle weighs more than fat.. and you are making progress. After 8 weeks I would be frustrated too. How long are you spending in the gym on those 3 days? What kinds of exercise are you doing? Have you thought about signing up for any classes? They tend to make you work harder than you would on your own..
drink more water and double check your food intake. working out can definitely increase hunger.. have you been writing down everything you eat? i'm not sure how you like to track you caloric intake... but if you are guesstimating then you may want to take a closer look. if you are sticking to your food goals and working out then the weight should be coming off.. and it should be showing on the scale. you should also check out the scale you are using and make sure that it is somewhat accurate.
Why can athletes eat so much?
Athletes need adequate calories to offset those they burn in training and competition. They eat to either maintain their body mass or gain muscle... Read more
