HI,

I just joined last week and guessed what my weight was.  Well, I weighed today my my weight was WAY WAY higher than I thought and I am totally bummed that I am much heavier than I thought and need motivation to not slip into a depression about it.  I am also a Starbuck's junkie and need an alternative-Any suggestions?  thanks so much!

No need to get bummed out at the onset of a new lifestyle. That's the wrong attitude. Accept your weight and work out a reasonable strategy for success. You can either choose to succeed, or do nothing at all causing potentially even worse health.

The people here are super supportive so if you ever get discouraged, just consult with us. I'm here everyday, even in the evenings. We gotta help each other out.

What do you get from Starbucks normally?

Same happened to me when I started CC (I even conned myself with clothes by only wearing elasticated waists Embarassed but you are here!

You are motivated enough to start CC and you can do really well with all the support here!  Well done!  I've only been doing this for about 6 weeks but already I'm exercising far more than I have ever done and enjoying it Surprised  Like mortalmonkey said, just post a message - there are loads of really nice people around.

I totally agree with mortalmonkey.  No need to get depressed or upset.  Look at this as the start of your new life!  Your new HEALTHIER life.  Getting here is half the battle.  Now let's figure out what you need to do and how much you need to eat and it'll get easier with time.....trust me.

We are here to support you!!!!

Admitting it is the first step, right?  Just kidding....

Many here know how you feel.  We are all here for the same reasons - health and healthy weight loss.  And we all feel discouraged sometimes.  Doing something feels better than doing nothing did, though.  Join us.

I'm pretty new here too and haven't commented much but I think being on the boards helps me stay committed.   People are inspiring around here with their commitment and success.

I can't help with the Starbuck's dilemma.  I'm a tea person.

Ex-starbucks junkie here!

I stopped pouring sugar into my latte, and then realised that Starbucks tastes like crap without the sugar. i found a local coffee shop a half block from starbucks, where everything was CHEAPER and WAY MORE DELICIOUS! Now I order one 12-oz. latte with nonfat milk from the local place (they make the best foam there!) and add one real raw sugar and cinnamon. Heaven, and 150 calories.

You'll make a small yummy coffee drink fit into your calories if you need to, and why not? There's no point to giving up everything you love, you just learn how to have less of somthing yummy :)

I'm just going to assume that since you are worried about your Starbucks addiction you aren't just having a Grande Bold coffee black... :)

If you're anything like me you love the high fat high sugar fancy ones! If you are having these daily you are likely very addicted to both the caffiene and the sugar.

First try getting anything with milk made with Non-fat (ie carmal macchiatos/latte's).

Then make the switch to their "lighter" options for sugar - they offer sweetner versions of their flavour shots and syrups.

And if you can... cut back on the size!

It might be too much a part of your daily routine to start swapping that Starbucks for a green tea or a homemade coffee right away (Saves big $$ too!)- but give it a try... and try to keep slowly increasing how often you make a better choice!

Check out their website too for their detailed nutrional information and compare your favourites for the best options to work into your day! You are still allowed treats like a daily starbucks - you just have to plan for them!

Welcome to your new life style!  We're glad to have you here.

A question:  Did weighing yourself change how you look? - NO

Try not to focus on the scale.  It's evil EVIL!  Once a week is plenty.  Lately I've done it even less than that.  Just in the last week, I've found something much more important.  People have started to notice that I've lost weight and have made some nice comments.  Yay!  Just a couple of hours ago, someone said I looked thinner in the hips - a problem area for me.

Instead focus on eating better and getting some exercise.  The changes will follow.

Definitely don't feel depressed.  You have to start somewhere.  I think of my calories as money... I get 1500 bucks a day.  Some of that obviously has to go towards necessary things like nutrition.  But some of it goes to the fun stuff like coffee.  So, as for starbucks... I personally can't live without a daily coffee so that is one thing I'm willing to spend more calories on.  I drink coffee brewed at home and add flavored creamer.  If you splurge on one or two of the things you love, you just have to cut back somewhere else.
