So I'm very new to daily exercise and I've working out for the past 2 weeks. During this time my joints have been hurting so bad, especially my knees. I believe I'm doing everything right. I do a warm-up, then I stretch, then I do my cardio and then cool down.
I have been doing my cardio on an elliptical trainer because it's low impact, but my joints still ache really bad. It's killing me to stand up at work all day because my hip and ankles hurt so bad. And I have kinda a limp because of my knee now. I'm not that old, I'm only 22 so I dont why this is happening. Does this beginner pain go away or am I doing something wrong and hurting myself? Please help.
When you are just starting, sore muscles are to be expected and is good. Joint pain isn't good. I agree with the recommendation to see a doctor. Personally I hate doctors so if it was me, I would stop the cardio for 1-2 weeks and see if the pain goes away first, and if not, see a doc.
In general, when you have joint pain, the thing to do is to stop what you were doing until the pain goes away. Otherwise the injury gets worse.
How long do you work out on the elliptical trainer? What resistance / height settings? When you are picking up exercise after being idle, it is very important to build up very slowly to avoid overuse injuries.
When I use the elliptical I use the very lowest resistance it can go. I am gradually building up my routine. I started with 10 mins now I'm to 20 mins. Thats all I can really handle. I have thought about taking a week off but I'm afraid of losing interest and becoming sedentary again. So I keep pushing myself.
Thanks for the advice. I hate doctors too but I'm actually going to see mine for a different reason when I'm home for Christmas. So I'll ask him then. Until then I'm gonna chill out on working out.
mmmmm
Have you ever worked out before? Is it ALL the joints???
Sometimes this happens because you don't have enough muscles to support the joint... AFTER seeing a doctor maybe you can include some light weight training instead of cardio.... But you should really get checked with a doctor.... REST!!!!
