I have my yellow belt - from 20 years ago!  I still dabble a bit with the kids' aikido class and then a bit with my BJJ folks.

only one i know.  :/

sensei just told me today he already has my blackbelt; i am already registered with the Kodokan as Shodan, so i can't compete in oct as a brown belt; he is just holding the actual belt waiting for me to prove myself some more.  whatever.

I hate it when they use belts as carrots!  It's an old school mentalilty I think.  Truly they seem to think that they are your life coach in addition to teaching you the art.  Most of the time it's a charming delusion, the rest of the time it's a pain in the arse!

so, last night i took a glance around at the make up of the kid's class.  there were 28 individuals on the mat.  3 were black belts.  7 were adults.  5 were larger teens. ( i played with a borderline tean that i outweigh by 20 lbs... he has made a lot of improvement over the summer, and it was good to be able to tell him that and help him perfect techniques he is struggeling with.)  The rest were kids.  we have been working on the same sets of forward thows for aobut a month now, and it is finally starting to show for several players.  i see that atleast with the repitition, many younger kids are getting the concepts.  last night, there was a focus on how these throws fit into sensei Kano's idea of circular, explosive judo.   it was really inspiring... and there was an image in my mind of some of the partners turning into spining, bouncing balls of judokas...it made me laugh.
