Juggling it all

Quote  |  Reply
I have recently gotten a part-time job in which I work somewhere between 14-20 hours, on top of class which is about 24 hours a week. And add in travel time.  And at least 2 hours of homework a night. That's at least 60 hours a week of doing something. I am finding myself unintentionally not eating. I just can't fit the time to make things. I haven't figured it all out. How can I juggle it all? And also what types of things can I bring along with me other than granola bars?

Like anything else in life, leave it to chance and it won't happen.  Make a schedule and make your healthy lifestyle, regular meals and regular exercise top priority rather than an also ran....  Fit 'life' in around your meals and not the other way around.   Getting up half an hour earlier, for example, means you have time to eat a breakfast and make a packed lunch for later.... and you can put all kinds of things into a lunch-box, of course.   Planning your meals ahead of time means you can go shopping for the right ingredients.

Takes a little effort but it can be done.

Sit down and make out your schedule. I get up an hour early each morning so that I can workout before my day starts. That way there is no excuse at the end of the day and it is done and out of the way. I plan meals ahead. On Sunday I cook for the first part of the week. I pack my lunches and snacks for work. I work a full time job and a part time job and take care of my home and family. It is not easy but can be done.

Some portable snacks are. Fruit. Cut up fruit and put it in a storage container in the frig. Put some in a baggie for your snack. Same with veggies. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, rice cakes, whole grain crackers or pretzels, whole grain cereal, cottage cheese, nuts, low fat cheese, popcorn, sunflower seeds, apple sauce, baked sweet potato cut up.

Will power is the key to it all. If you plan  your meals and snacks and don't allow yourself to eat outside of that plan it works. Have a cheat meal one or two days a week and eat the foods you enjoy most. Drink plenty of water.
