20 pounds by July 31st Challenge- Week 2
Here's the new thread ladies and gentlemen! If you've been keeping up with the forum you know that we're going to post a new thread each week and update each other with our progress.
Here is the old one if anyone ever wants to look back:
Original- 20 pounds by July 31st Challenge
Remember to be happy with the effort you put in this week, even if you didn't get the results you've been hoping for. It's only the end of week one, you have over 8 more to refine your technique and drop those pounds like hot cakes.
Let's all restate our stats and summarize how we think we did.
My results:
1st week weigh in
SW:153
CW:151
GW:133
Total lost: 2 Pounds
I did awesome the whole week, and then yesterday I totally lost all of my drive and gave into my cravings (which I think were because my blood sugars dropped too low.. I need to eat right in the morning!) I want to lose this weight so badly and I'm going to see people I haven't seen in awhile in only 9 days.. so I'm really disappointed in myself. But if the horse bucks you off, you get back on... so today I hit the gym this morning and my eating is back on track. I think it's a reminder that I shouldn't be obsessed by what I weigh, people already love me as I am, and I need to love all these pounds of myself. I'm trying hard and I know I'll lose this weight, but I don't need to be in such a panic to get rid of it. If I want my boyfriend to love me as I am, why am I trying so hard to change before he sees me? Hey, this is good test for the guy, right? :)
I'm trying my hardest, and that should be good enough. I just always feel like I could try harder.
Well, that was a downer.
Now your turn, post away!

CW: 248

I am not really upset about my "non" weight loss. It was that "time" and I actually gained 3 and lost it due to my workouts. So i guess that's good. I know that I will definitely see a change next week.
Wish me luck during WEEK 2
SW: 151.1 lbs
CW: 147.9 lbs
GW: ~125
Total Lost: 3.2lbs!!
I am seriously so excited because I've never lost this much weight in one week before.. it's usually more like 1/2lb a week lol. I guess it just goes to show you that being determined can actually pay off! I did have my fair share of unhealthy foods this week (pizza, ice cream, etc) but managed to keep my portions under control and keep my calories in check, so I still managed to lose. I'm happy to have lost but I'm still concerned about being healthy as diabetes runs in my family so my goal for this week is to seriously limit the junk.
Congratulations everyone!! Those of you haven't lost at all must have some serious willpower to stick with it, but hopefully next week the scale will just show a double loss!! :)
Hi everyone, i thought this would bring a smile to your faces, trust me this was exactly how it was said. i was chatting with a female friend who wanted to lose weight. i recommended calourie-count and explained it in depth...she looked at me and said
"What! you mean you actually weigh what you eat?, sod that i want a way where i dont have too watch how much, or WHAT i eat"
i suggested that maybe given that she didnt fancy actually putting any work into it she maybe go to Lakeland revival and seek i quick fix. after all if she prayed to win the lottery, God would still expect her to meet him half way and at least buy a ticket. bless her
Good luck for all on our second week

i was doing better before drinking alot on the weekend & having a fatty grilled cheese right before my tuesday morning weigh in. losing anything is good though. motivation to do better next week. :-)
hi Guys, just want to run this past you. i started 7 days ago. i started at 306lbs. after 7 days i have lost 7 pound, and can honestly say ive not starved myself and hardly been hungry. my average calorie intake has been around 2000-2100 and my burn meter total estimate is 3370. i have been exercising but my no means overdoing. does this seem ok to you, or do i perhaps need assess it again after another week and see how it is then
monty
and keep up the good work all of you, am finding this thread a very encouraging one for me. roll on july31st and all those lovely fitter people on here
Geoff, I usually don't reassess what I am doing until I plateau on weight loss. So ince you lost 7 lbs so far then maybe keep going with that for now! Great job by the way!
sounds best idea i reckon. if it aint broke dont fix it eh? and as i say i am quite happy with the amount im eating. thanks for the encouragement
Geoff
Monty,
I wouldn't really worry about it. When I first started and had a lot more to lose it came off pretty fast at first. I think i lost like 20lbs in 2 months! As long as you're eating right and taking care of yourself then don't worry and just be proud of what you lost; 7lbs is awesome!
I just wanted to share something that was very exciting for me today! I finally broke down and bought a heart rate monitor after much deliberation. Decided on the women's Polar F6 over the F11 for price, plus the F6 does everything I really need. So, I took it out for my first test run...and boy is it great! I found out that I was probably always over my cardio range when walking and jogging. I had to walk very slow to be in the light range that is supposed to be best for fat loss...which was kind of disappointing, but good to know. It really motivated me to keep going, especially since it took longer to get worn out. Walked for just under two hours and burned...wait for it...1139 calories!!! Took turns walking with some jogging in all the heart rate zones. The time was just flying by. I think I may up my goal to 1000 cal a day burned with exercise. Let's see how I feel tomorrow. Also...if I continue that, will have to way up my calories eaten! Hmm, I think I could live with that! Can't wait to be in better shape so it takes more effort to burn as many calories!
Hope everyone had a great day!
feels about the same for me i think, though mentally i am really positive about the long term success of this attempt. today bought a heart rate monitor to use with exercise bike so i reckon thats showing keeness lol, especially given the state of my bank balance!! am looking forward to next tuesday and though i would never expect 7 more to go, i'd take 1-2 happily
CW: 252.6
Lost 2.4lbs!
Wow everyone seems to have had a great week! I'm so happy to see the number falling again, it was kind of stalled. To meet the 20 pound goal, I have to take it up a notch. But whatever I lose I'll be happy. Keep it up guys :)
I'm with ya though monty, i was questioning whether or not what i was doing was overkill. But I too don't feel like im starving myself. This has happened to me before though. The first week this big drop and then you're back to 1-3 lbs a week. Have a good week everyone.
Emma,
YOU just totalllly motivated me to go buy a heart monitor. they didn't have the F6, i got the F4 that was in stock. i can't believe what a difference it makes.
it has been VERY hard for me to lose weight even cutting calories and moderate bike riding 3xweek @45 minutes...i lost 3 pounds 3 weeks ago and NADA since. i went to my doctor to ask for a thyroid check and he said he was sure it wasn't my thyroid. i had a baby 21/2 years ago and my body just hasn't wanted to let go.
so, i got this monitor and can really see the difference it makes to be within your zone! holy crap! i paired it with my new wii fit and just burned 887 calories in 1 1/2 hours of exercise having a BLAST!! you can go from aerobics, to boxing, running...wow!!
question...if i just burned 887 calories (total burn so far today is 1600+) and i have only eaten 309 calories at 1:30pm...will have snack soon...what should be the maximum difference of burn vs calories in a day??
I have a sportline heart rate monitor which I have to apply my finger to a button on the front to get a heart rate reading... I've used it on my 4.5 mile walk and it says for 74 minutes of exercise I burned 1084 calories. When I came home and typed in walking on calorie count activity log the choices I get show the most burn at 334 calories. So which is correct? I'd hate to think I burned 1084 when I really burned a lot less. Also what is the target zone? Here is how I tried to figure mine
estimated max
heart rate is 220-(age) 34=186
The recommended
target zone is 60-70 %
60% of 186=112
70% of 186=130
Problem is I don't feel like I am working out until I reach 160-180 so IDK what is the right thing to be doing. Any help would be so appreciated! Maybe the watch I have isn't that accurate?
Totally not doing well this week. Not sure if I picked the right time to start up a challenge as it looks like I'm plateauing. Although there are a couple of possible explanations. The most likely reason is that my strength training is catching up with me and my muscle mass is growing while i'm still losing. I think this is highly likely since yesterday i realized that i dropped another pants size:) Also pretty bloated and gross from TTOM as of 2 days ago.
Either way, the scale isn't being very cooperative. Today is going to be a total workout day. I feel all gross and fatigue-ish but I'm about to head out for my usual 2.5 mile run. Then this afternoon I think I'm going to go swim some laps. Tonight I'm hitting up the gym. Tomorrow will look similar, but with only 2 workout sessions rather than 3. I think that even if this doesn't show me anything numbers-wise, it will make me feel good and remind me that I am working hard and that I will continue to work hard regardless of numbers.
Soooo....to make myself feel better about this challenge I'm going to do a one time posting of my pants size change this week.
Starting Size - 16
Size at start of challenge - 12
Current size - 10
I'm having a horrible, horrible time this week - I had two birthday parties to go to and ended up overeating so much junk food while I was there. I went into it with the right attitude I think, (OK, only one slice of pizza and a small piece of cake, and that's it...) but ended up binging on all sorts of junk once I got started, sigh. So I now have 2 days of my week where I have no idea how many calories I ate but I'm guessing they're in the 2,000-2,500 range, which is quite a bit considering I'm incredibly sedentary and usually don't feel hungry for more than 1400. (The excess calories comes from eating junk food instead of healthily...)
agh. I weighed myself in the middle of the week and the scale showed that I had gained a pound, which I found really disappointing because I thought I was off to such a great start for this challenge.. I'm really worried that I'll gain this week.. which I guess won't exactly put me back for the challenge, just put me on track, but I think that any gain instead of loss is upsetting..
I'd really appreciate your encouragement guys >< thanks
ibii - Don't let it get you down. I lost 4 lbs last week and lost nothing this week so far. Sometimes that happens. I find that sometimes it is good to have a day here and there where I eat a little more. What are you doing for exercise?
