JULY 4TH CHALLENGE

WEEK 05-30-11

SW 213.7

LW

CW

GW 199

EXERCISE -  Run 5K 3-4 times a week, swim at least once a week, walk everyday and fit in biking in there. Also take my guys hiking at least a couple times in the next month and bit and to take them to the park at least 4 times per week. Ok... and GO!

This will be my first challenge...

Challenge SW (5/31): 243.2

LW:

CW:

GW: 230

Exercise: Elliptical 30mins 5 times a week, Jillian Michaels DVD 3 times week, walking at least 3 times a week.

Name: Lisa

Challenge SW: 222.7

LW: n/a

CW: 222.7 (5/31)

Challenge GW: 210.00

Exercise Goal is 45 minutes walking 5 days a week, strength training 30 minutes 5 days a week. I am trying to be realistic about the exercise... I was doing hardcore work outs 2x a day/6 days a week until we took my father-in-law for his surgery but his recovery is going so slow and I am so tired that realistically until things are more normal in my house this is the best I can do.

Good Luck everyone!

This is my first challenge. I am going to be conservative because I am -11lbs. ahead of schedule and originally wanted to be 214lbs. by July 4th. (Besides I think I am hitting a plateau)

OSW (3/1/11): 277

SW 5/30 - 218.7

6/6 - 215 (-3.7)

6/13 - 213 (-5.7 for challenge)

6/20 - 208.6 (-10.1 for challenge)

6/27 - 206.1 (-12.6 for challenge)

7/4 - (GW - 208lbs.)(NEW Goal - 204lbs.)

Exercise Goal - 1 hour urban cross country hiking everyday,  calisthenics 30 min. everyday, and weight training 30 min. everyday

Ok I'm in!!  I've set it low on purpose and it appears to be an odd one but it'll still be a BIG one!!

SW: 165.0

GW for challenge: 157.7  This is my 100 pound lost mark!!

Exercise: walking twice daily plus mini stepper and calisthenics.  Am now carrying bottles of lemonade on my walks instead of weights, plus carry a spray bottle hooked to my pocket to mist myself on my walks.  Am laughing at the neighbors surprise at my new weights.

Now the REAL funny part!! People in the neighborhood are taking bets as to how much weight I've lost.  So far one family had a bet between the family and the kids won.

@Unable - That's great! How did you make through? Did you hit plateaus? I feel like I am coming to one, I've started to add extra weight training onto my normal work out routine, do you think this will help?

AMFjslive Thanks!! It's mainly a mindset.  I hit a plateau back in november, I refer to it as a month long plateau.  I don't really do weight training persay... just mainly walk with hand weights and yes I've upped them.  Main thing I did to get off the plateau was to look back at what I was doing.... realized I had been walking the same distance for too long so I upped it and now what I'm doing is I'll mix it all up so that I'm not walking the same distance every time.... sometimes I'll walk 1 1/2 miles one walk and then another walk I'll do 2 1/4 then another time I'll do 3 3/4.  I try to rarely do the the 1 1/2.  I also do upper body exercises while on my walk with the hand weights.

I've slowed down considerably in the last couple of months but that's due to me getting closer to my actual goal weight so I'm not burning as many calories as I used to (have to really build on the activities to burn extra calories).  I also recommend that you find (if you haven't already) a calorie range that you can eat within daily and still lose.  That way you don't beat yourself up over going over your minimum.

Hope this helps you!!  If not feel free to PM me.

This is my first challenge too!

 Awesome Potatojones!

I started the couch to 5K and my last day is tomorrow! I am very excited and although some days were tough, especially weeks 3-4, I powered through it and made it to the end. I am capping it off with doing a 5k road race on Sunday! I can't believe it. It is amazing, and I hope you find it to be too! I thought I was going to DIE the first day I did it, now I look back and it wasn't even two months ago and being able to run 30 minutes straight... amazing! Goodluck (I know, I know.. I am gushing!)

Wow. Alot of you have some very ambitious goals considering it's only a little over a month til july 4th. I am not so optimistic and i know if i don't make my goal i will be disappointed. Setting a goal that is really modest but my weight loss is slowing down now so i will still be happy if i attain it. Plus it will be 60 lbs lost so that will be good.

SW for challenge: 267.8

GW by July 4th: 260

Best of luck all!!

First... Potato --- CONGRATS on quitting smoking!!!!

Challenge FW (7/04)

Joined the YMCA a couple of weeks ago... start to take one hour Water Aerobics twice a week, and working out at least 2 other days for 30 mins to 1 hour

I've felt like I hit a plateau the last couple of weeks... still had a loss, but not as big as before... I am working on figuring out what I've been doing different and balance out an increase in activity with an increase in calorie intake... I just thought math was stupid in school... lol

Good Luck to all!!

Looks like we have a great group and lots of good posts...quitting smoking can be difficult while you're dieting, but you CAN do it!!  Good luck everyone, let's have fun with this one and rock it out!!

@ Potato, grats. Quitting can be hard, I did it about 4 years ago. 2 tips: 1. carry celery or carrot sticks with you at all times and 2. If you are struggling, set smaller goals, achieving them will boost your confidence and help you get through the hard times. I used to do things 2 hours at a time. If I felt like I wanted a cig I would say to myself, "if I still want one in two hours I will go get one then." When that 2 hours came (though I still wanted one) I would think that if I could go 2 hours then I can go another 2 hours and so on. Until it got to the point where I would go the whole day without thinking about it.

Interestingly enough, I haven't smoked in 4 years, but I must still identify myself as a smoker because I always smoke in my dreams, lol.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!  I really need it because today my legs are so sore I'm waddling around like a pregnant duck and my lungs are starting to clean out so I'm also hacking up lots of lovely goop.  These are positive things, right? ;)

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
