Jump Rope Substitute? (Don't laugh xD)

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, so I really am in need of burning some extra calories and I saw jump roping, even at a slow rate is really good. I don't have a jump rope though.

It's still the same thing if I use a phone cord right? It's the perfect size and I'm still jumping and using my arms and such. Would it be the same or no?

Dumb question, I know...

You can even just pretend to jump rope. Still gets the same workout - unless you compare to using a weighted jump rope.

^-^ Okay. Thanks.

I thought it would be but I just wanted to make sure.

I'm not laughing because jumping rope (or air or a phone cord) is really hard!

In the cardio class I take we pretend jump rope all the time.  Less risk of injury too - since you don't trip over the rope and for me I have shinsplints and the act of actually jumping off the ground causes severe pain so I just kind of jump from the knees up more of a little squat I guess.

Jumping rope is evil ......

i spent last summer trying to teach my 8 year old how to do it and i fell and almost broke my ankle ...... evil i tell you.

Really really good exercise though if you can master it which i obviously haven't haha.

dbackerfan: Thanks. =] That sounds like it'll work. I don't wanna get injured. Haha. Sorry about your shinsplints. ):

leiela: Hahaha, sounds pretty evil to me. D: I am actually rather good at jump roping though, but I just don't have a jump rope. xD

hey, i pretend to jump rope too, it's okay, it may be a lower calorie burn because the swinging form the weight of the rope is missing, but it's still good.

The rope would probably weigh a pound, at most. That's not going to make much difference, especially if you keep with the wrist movements, even if you don't have a jump rope. :P

operation-filth: I was using a thick extension cord for a while. Until it flew up and smacked me hard in the face. Now, I just pretend.

Yeah, this is definately a good workout if you do it right---and you won't have to pause from hitting your feet too (:

Since you're doing this though, it sounds as if you might as well just start running.  I don't know your goals or what you're capable of, but I thought I'd just suggest it.

Anyway, good luck!

I think using a pretend jump rope would be a lot easier. Whenever I use a real rope I just end up with whip marks on my legs... Frown

Hahahaa. You guys are hilarious.

alysha_: All I have to say is, ouchhh!

kate777: Thanks for the advice. =]

w0lf: Haha, yeah, I know what you mean.

Thanks for the tips/advice guys! :D
