Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
Asked by anonymous on Dec 02, 2009 in Fitness

For example, how many minutes would you have to work out to match up to a mile run?

Answer

In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time, speed and fitness level.  Jumping is strenuous and so people typically jump in 10-minute sessions once or twice a day.  To start, jump in 1 to 3-minute rounds, alternating between fast and slow skipping with a 20 to 60 second rest in between, and then gradually build up to skipping faster during the rounds and decreasing the rest time in between. Are Nutrition Facts Labels Accurate?
Being a health and calorie conscious eater, I like to think of nutrition facts labels as my nutrition information go-to, a cheat sheet of sorts. Despite the vast amount of info, there are definitely gaps. A nutrition label doesn’t reveal everything a consumer should know, and can even be misleading.
