June's 100 Mile Walk

Quote  |  Reply

Anyone up for a 100 mile walk??? or 50 if 100 seems too extreme for you? Join me!

100 miles = 3.2 miles per day

50 miles = 1.6 miles per day

I've been keeping track of my miles through a pedometer but you can also use http://www.mapmyrun.com/ if you don't have one.

Post your mileage whenever you feel, and we'll support and motivate eachother to keep it up! Good luck everyone!

I've decided to add an extra challenge this month for anyone willing to take it!  We need some Core and Arm workouts ladies... if not well have perfact butts with bat wings!  No one wants that!

I’ve found 4 different challenges to increase our upper body and core strength each more difficult then the other.  Take some time this week to try them out and see where you stand.

The first option is 15 minutes of Elbow Plank in a month:

http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercis es_10.htm  Plank 60 seconds every other day will give you 15 minutes at the end of the month.

The second option is the same but instead of doing the plank on your elbows try it on the palms of your hands which is slightly more difficult.  60 seconds every other day.

If that is too easy the third option is 30 seconds of the side plank on each side. http://yoga.about.com/od/yogasequences/ss/yog aforabs_5.htm

And the forth:

10-20 of these every other day

So who is up for it?

OK, Lilsmiter,

I will walk with you. I will count only my walking at work. I have a step counter that I use to give me some idea how much I walk in an average day. Sadly, it doesn't measure mileage, but I can convert the steps into miles. I have been trying to figure out how I can get more activity at work. This challenge will work for me.

Put me in for the 100 mile challenge.

I will try the 60 seconds of elbow plank every other day, too. I should be able to do this. If it's too easy, I will let you know.

J-mom

Awesome, It is Great to have you!

Give the plank a shot some time this week, and don't be afraid to change your goal as you get stronger.

Please add Lilttle Miss Sunshine to the list!!

Also you can sign me up for whatever option...I am down for the cause!

OK Faye... I put you for Option 2...

But Start at option one and try to work your way up over a week or so, then let me know how you are doing and we'll move you down if we need to.

ok I'm in for 100 miles, I swear this month I'll get it done, and I would like to do all four options for arms if that's allowed.

Sarah,

LOL I love the Enthusiasm, but just doing More of option 4 will work all of the same muscles and more ... it will be way easier and faster to just focus on that.

Doing 1, 2, 3 on top of that would be redundant.

Try for 10-20 of option 4 a day and then try to work your way higher.

I'll go for 100 miles again and option 4.  How long are we supposed to hold that side plank between push-ups?  Surely not 30 seconds each time?

EEEKKK no.  Like 1-3 breaths, just long enough for you to get your balance right then back down.

OK Susie I'm Signing you up.

Count me for 50 miles and option 1 please!

count me in please! i will try all the excercises! I CAN do it!

hehe, OK so I'm going to put you down for 100 miles walked in a month and Option 4 for the Core and arms.

If Option 4 is too tough feel free to let me know and well put you with the one that is best.

I'd like to try, this will be my first challenge!  Put me down for 50 miles in the month of  June and option 1, my upper body strength is horrible, I could use some work.  My only problem is I often find topics and then have a hard time finding them again, is there anyway to bookmark this forum and find my way home??Undecided

Never mind, I found the "Tag it" option =0 - Happy walking everyone!

lilsmiter, THANKS for starting this challenge. Count me in for 100 miles and the elbow planks. I used to do yoga three times a week and due to work load dropped out...and missed it BIG TIME.  Monday I was thinking about starting back so your post is just confirmation to get back to it.

I walk 4 miles a day now so this will be fun to encourage each other to reach their goal.

I'm definitely in for 100 miles and the elbow planks.

Thank you so much for the website information, I just registered and I loved it!  I am down for 100 miles, it is my birthday in June and I love walking!  It will be a gift to myself.   So I guess we have to wait until June 1st to start logging our miles obviously, right?  Way cool, thanks so much for the challenge.

I am going to do 50 miles and option 2 or 3.  I know I can hold them, not sure if I can move from one to the other with the push up too. :)  Thanks for the challenge, I'm really hoping this will give me some umph to get up in the morning and run/walk!

Where are we logging our miles walked?  Here?

This is great! Thanks for starting this.

Sign me up for 50 miles & option 1. Smile

Sign me up.  I was already doing this on my own for May (so far at 55 miles), so I'd like to up it to 100 for June (my dogs will love me).

I'll take 100 miles and option 3.

hi

please sign me up for 100 miles in June.  this will be in addition to my Wii Active 30 day challenge - lets see if i can make a difference to this bikini-no-so-ready body!

ta.

I'm in for 176.5 miles Sealed.  If that's a pain in the rear to enter at the top of the thread, then 175 miles will suffice.  I'll pass on the options, if that's ok.

WOW what a Response!

This is actually the 3rd month in a row of walking challenges, Myself, Girlfighting, Susiecue and Fayeonherway are all old hats on this!

Oarsman, Miserybabe, Myhosi:  Do you want to do any of the arms/core options?

And as far as logging the miles we generaly check in once a day or so to touch base tell what your doing or planning and get some good support.
