June's 100 Mile Walk

Quote  |  Reply

Anyone up for a 100 mile walk??? or 50 if 100 seems too extreme for you? Join me!

100 miles = 3.2 miles per day

50 miles = 1.6 miles per day

I've been keeping track of my miles through a pedometer but you can also use http://www.mapmyrun.com/ if you don't have one.

Post your mileage whenever you feel, and we'll support and motivate eachother to keep it up! Good luck everyone!

I've decided to add an extra challenge this month for anyone willing to take it!  We need some Core and Arm workouts ladies... if not well have perfact butts with bat wings!  No one wants that!

I’ve found 4 different challenges to increase our upper body and core strength each more difficult then the other.  Take some time this week to try them out and see where you stand.

The first option is 15 minutes of Elbow Plank in a month:

http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercis es_10.htm  Plank 60 seconds every other day will give you 15 minutes at the end of the month.

The second option is the same but instead of doing the plank on your elbows try it on the palms of your hands which is slightly more difficult.  60 seconds every other day.

If that is too easy the third option is 30 seconds of the side plank on each side. http://yoga.about.com/od/yogasequences/ss/yog aforabs_5.htm

And the forth:

http://exercise.about.com/b/a/256962.htm

10-20 of these every other day

So who is up for it?

175

150

100 Mile

50 Mile

 ARMS AND CORE

Option 1:

Option 2:

Option 3:

Option 4:

I think that I'll just stick to the 176.5 miles this time around.  No options, or super-sizing, for me.  Maybe next time, depending on how things go.

Thanks for managing this challenge; it should be a great motivator.

Haha, Ok Fair enough.  However If you stay with us for July I'll have to get you doing some arms and Core or Faye will never forgive me!

For anyone avoiding Option 4 because they can't do push-ups (would have been me a year ago), try adding a set of push-ups against the kitchen counter every time you're hanging out in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil/toast to pop/etc.  Push-ups are easier the higher your hands are relative to your feet, and straight-body push-ups against a surface (kitchen counter, table, stairs, etc.) train you to do 'real' push-ups much more effectively than on-your-knees 'girly' push-ups (which never helped me with anything).  All it takes is baby steps!  Once the kitchen counter ones are too easy, choose a lower surface - maybe a sturdy coffee table or one of the stairs.  Every time they get easy, go lower until you're doing them completely on the floor.  It felt awesome going from not being able to do a single 'real' push-up to being able to do them with my feet up.  You can do it too!

I'm in! I'd like to try for 150 this time, gotta keep up with Mr. Bea! Tongue out

Good luck everyone!!!

Actually, miss bea, I'm going for 176.5 miles.

OK I think I have everyone down for June.  If I missed you or put you in the wrong spot let me know...

For the time being if you didn't tell me which option you want or specify that you just wanted to walk I am putting you in Option 1.

Let me know what corrections I need to make!!! Thanks!

OH and Check this out... It's a nice article about the plank and some variations and things to consider.

Lil,

Ran a dry run on the elbow plank. The last 15 seconds were long, but it wasn't something that I couldn't do. Think I will stick with Option 1 for the first week or two, then (hopefully) will bump up to Option 2. I can really tell that my core is getting stronger.

OK, I will see you on Monday. I will add a walk that I would not normally include in my plan so I have something to post. Normally, I will only include my Fri thru Sun work walks.

Have a good weekend.

J-mom

Good Job Jehzimom!

I'm going to take the top down on my Jeep, Grab my dog and go see my Dad this weekend.  Everyone have a wonderfull time!

Our group is growing! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Bumpity bump bump

Ladies and Gentleman

Today is the first day of JUNE let the walking Begin!

Did 3.5 miles this morning...had a very late morning Cry and not off to a good start!

Total: 3.5

If you ladies and gentlemen have room I would love to join.  I am just getting back to some sort of fitness routine after much too long of an absence.  I have just returned from two conferences last month.  I seemed to walk a fair bit but ate way too much.  I love the idea of accountability.

I will report in tomorrow, if I may, giving the first days stats.  I will get on the treadmill tonight and need to get a new battery for my pedometer, so I can see how much I walk with the dog.

Bev

HUG Fay, Your the still the first on the board  Great job.  Don't forget your core and arms tonight!!!

Bev- Your just in time.  I'll put you down for 100 miles and you just do your best ok!

ok, last month I did horrible on the challenge, not even making it halfway to goal. Embarassed

BUT...there were days I really really didn't want to walk, yet I did so for the sake of the challenge and felt better for it afterwards.

In that spirit, can I join this months challenge with y'all? 50 miles is 80 kms...I can do it! I think? I hope?...Undecided

As for the options, I think I'll pass on those this time around.

You did better then I did QM.  No worries, you are know ONE OF US... LOL

If it's not too late, can I join for the 100 mile challange, please?  I lift weights for my arms and would like to stick with my arm routine for this month, so I'll pass on the second part of the challange this time.

Lil,

Quick question. Are we logging walking miles only are do bike miles or elliptical miles count, too?

J-mom

J-mom-

I count My tread mill Miles too...

Lets Count Eliptical but not bike... that doesn't seem fair with the bike.

Efish- No Problem, and welcome! I'll add you right now!

OK,

Treadmill, Elliptical, and outside miles all count. Sounds good to me!!

I am with you on the bike not counting. I can easily rack up 16 or so miles in an hour, but I wanted everyone to have a good chance at meeting their goal and with weather, heat during the summer, etc I thought I would clarify if inside miles counted. Glad they do.

OK, off to the gym. Will talk at you later.

J-mom
