June's 100 Mile Walk

Quote  |  Reply

Anyone up for a 100 mile walk??? or 50 if 100 seems too extreme for you? Join me!

100 miles = 3.2 miles per day

50 miles = 1.6 miles per day

I've been keeping track of my miles through a pedometer but you can also use http://www.mapmyrun.com/ if you don't have one.

Post your mileage whenever you feel, and we'll support and motivate eachother to keep it up! Good luck everyone!

I've decided to add an extra challenge this month for anyone willing to take it!  We need some Core and Arm workouts ladies... if not well have perfact butts with bat wings!  No one wants that!

I’ve found 4 different challenges to increase our upper body and core strength each more difficult then the other.  Take some time this week to try them out and see where you stand.

The first option is 15 minutes of Elbow Plank in a month:

http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercis es_10.htm  Plank 60 seconds every other day will give you 15 minutes at the end of the month.

The second option is the same but instead of doing the plank on your elbows try it on the palms of your hands which is slightly more difficult.  60 seconds every other day.

If that is too easy the third option is 30 seconds of the side plank on each side. http://yoga.about.com/od/yogasequences/ss/yog aforabs_5.htm

And the forth:

10-20 of these every other day

So who is up for it?

I'm in! I'd like to try for 150 this time, gotta keep up with Mr. Bea! Tongue out

Good luck everyone!!!

Actually, miss bea, I'm going for 176.5 miles.

I don't enjoy blisters, aches, and pains as much as you do. Tongue out

EDIT: 4 miles in the afternoon and another 3 after dinner with Mr. Bea.

7 / 150

Day one:

4 miles with the dogs this evening (including chasing away an off-leash dog that one of my a-hole neighbors lets run loose - maybe I should start carrying a big stick).

Option 3:

Did 30 seconds on each arm

Total:

4/100 (miles) and 60/900 (seconds)

I like the way eedwards1 posted his stats, so I will follow:

Day one:

elliptical on interval program: 5.03 / 100 miles

Option 1:

60/900 seconds

Great start!

Hi jehzimom,

I'm a she!  Excellent start as well - 100 miles here we come!

-Ellen

Sorry Ellen. I really could not see you in the picture. My apologies.

Marvel

No problem!  I'm hiding behind dogs and sunglasses!

5 miles this evening plus ten of the Option 4 push-up/planks (five on each side).  Apparently, I am lopsided as I can do the "raise your right arm" planks pretty easily but have a harder time getting into the "raise your left arm" pose.

5 miles / 10 push ups total

4 miles walk to work/home for a total of about 1.5 hours @ 3 mph.  4 miles power walk at lunch for 1 hour @ 4 mph.  3 miles walk after dinner for 1 hour @ 3 mph.

11 miles total for the day.

CC shows that this is over 1400 calories burned.  All I ate was 1650 calories.  Considering that running screwed up my knees when I was in my 20's, I think that I can live with walking if it burns this many calories.

Oh sure, I spent over 3 hours walking in total yesterday, but at least I'll be able to continue walking for the rest of my life.  Running (actually all high impact sports) is out of the question.

5 miles walked with the doggie last night

**5 miles down, 95 miles to go!**

Great Starts Everyone!

Susiecue: Why don't you try just doing the side plank poses 30 seconds each on both sides for a week untill your really comfortable on both sides.  There is nothing wrong with taking your time but if you push to hard you can hurt yourself with that workout.

I went to our first Search and Rescue meeting last night all the way out in Boulder, By the time I was coming home it was pouring rain and I had to put my top on my Jeep!  LOL I got rained on a bit.  Which is weird when you are driving.  Anyway I got home at 9 to a very worried dog.  Tonight I plan on a good 3 mile walk and fixing my tread mill.  And of course my arms!

Did another 3.7 this morning

Total: 7.2

Have not done the other stuff I was supposed to do...will start this evening!Embarassed

lilsmiter, I may do some extra side planks on my 'bad' side to strengthen it a bit, but it's not so bad that I can't do them - and I want to 'have' to do push-ups.  My arms need them and they're way too easy for me to "forget" to do if I don't have to.

Still don't have my pedometer functioning so I am guessing for a bit of it.  I did 2 miles on treadmill and i would guess 1.5  more walking the dog.

Total 3.5 miles

I was going to do more but just got a Sport Active to go with my Wii yesterday.  I was having so much fun with it after work tonight that I didn't get outside for more walking.  The main thing was that I was active.  What a nice feeling.

Day 2:

treadmill on interval program:5.25 mi

5.03 + 5.25 = 10.28 / 100 miles

Option 1: (Day off)

60/900 seconds

6/2  -  4 miles today / 15 miles total / 175 miles goal

Day 2:

2.35 morning walk and 1.12 evening walk (work was long today, which means less time for walkingFrown)  Daily total = 3.47

Option 3:

day off

Total:

7.47/100 (miles) and 60/900 (seconds)

6/02: 2.25/100

I have got to get moving!

2 miles this afternoon plus ten more push-up/planks.

7 miles / 20 push ups total

Hey everyone!  I know I am a little behind in starting, but I just found this post and I would love to join your walking group!  Please put me down for 100 miles and Option 1.  Thanks!!!  Smile
