I jus tried the new flatbread sandwich at subway and I'm confused
I ordered the chicken florentine one v.s the steak and bacon with cheese. thinking it would be less calories. Wrong!!!! It has 520 calories while the other one only has 440. I thought chicken was healthier????
It depends on what they put on it or how they cook it. I was surprised the other day to find out a grilled cheese sandwich has more calories than a cheeseburger.
I tried that sandwich too--I think most of the calories come from that pesto-mayonnaise sauce, plus the cheese. I'm also wondering just in general if the flatbread has fewer calories than the regular bread. Either way, it tastes better. Drat, I think I just answered my own question.
250 calories in just the bread! Yikes.

How do you know the chicken isn't healthier? Number of calories has nothing to do with how healthy something is.

It does when you're trying to lose weight.
They egg whites one is good.
"florentine" typically means a cream based sauce. That's probably why.

Actually, "florentine" means with spinach. It has nothing to do with cream.
Whoa! That sucks! Shows you for passing up bacon ;)

Huh? how healthy something is depends on the weight loss goals of the person who's eating it? I always thought how healthy something is was based on it's nutritional value.

Yes and no. Nutritional information will give you a good idea if something is healthy or not, but the final determination is how it interacts with an individuals body.
Most people would say that soy foods are healthy. However, soy is one of the most unhealthy foods for me. The nutrition doesn't change if you eat it or I eat it, and yet it is completely terrible for me. Why?
Easy, I'm allergic to soy. So there is no way eating this supposedly healthy food is healthy for me. Nutrition counts for a lot, but the final determination is made by an individuals body and no two bodies are the same.
but the thing is I didn't even want that one!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted the other one but since I doing the 1250 calorie thing I thought that was a good choice.
So consider this a (good) lesson learned. Next time you go to have a flatbread sandwich, you now know that you can pick the one you really want and it'll actually have less calories - best of both worlds!
If there's not going to be much caloric or nutritional difference (as there often won't be between lean beef and chicken), you're really best to go with whichever option appeals to you more - because that way you'll feel more satisfied and are less likely to eat more later. As a general rule, when choosing between two sandwiches or salads, I tend to assume the one with less sauce (or a less creamy sauce) will be the lower calorie one since sauces pack a *lot* of calories and restaurants just slather them on. The chicken sandwich with no sauce probably would have been the lowest cal option, but it might not have been as tasty.
I learned a big lesson with this one! next time I will pick the one I really one
