Justifying your weight loss
Hey all!
So whenever i lose weight and notice a difference in clothes, i always say oh it must just be these pants, or the shirt on me doesn't look that different ( even though in the back of my head i know it does) when ever someone gives me a compliment i think it must have been a fluke or something.. especially when its my bf or mom giving me compliments on weight loss i think they are just saying that to be nice...I've lost 15 pounds with roughly 30 more to go, so until i get into higher weight loss numbers i don't think i will own the fact that hey... maybe i actually am losing some fat!
does anyone else do this??
15 pounds is a LOT of weight!!!!!!!!!!!!! 15 pounds IS a higher number! Can you visualize what 15lbs looks like? JESUS! Give yourself credit & love yourself! The sooner you ditch the self deprication the better you'll feel about your body & your life. You are AWESOME!
'It's me... I am a swan.... Wheeeeeee!'
I have the same problem, I can't see any difference in myself even tho I've lost 20 >.<
But I can always see it on my friends, and 15 is STELLAR.
go you, superhero. :]
I can't see the differences in myself either until I look at pictures. But looking at myself naked is still not a fun thing for me to do :(
I used to have that problem, then one day I really acknowledged I was really losing weight - did a lot for my self-esteem. My daughter (the one in the picture with me) put a pair of my "fat girl" pants next to the ones I was wearing then and I couldn't ignore the facts...I was no longer 200+ pounds...I had actually lost weight! I probably cried for over an hour. Congratulations on your weight-loss so far...15 pound weight-loss is nothing "not" to get excited about! Continued good luck! - Wanda
I think it might help you to visualize how much 15 pounds if you visualized them as babies. You have lost the equivalent of twins. Give yourself the credit you deserve. It get's really exciting when you can claim to have lost the equivalent of a 9th grade girl (110 pounds for me this week). By the time I am finished, I want to have lost the equivalent of a 17 year old boy. Not there yet, but much closer to my goal than when I started last June.
Techdog makes a good comparison. Here's another. Think of sticks of butter. It takes two sticks of butter to make a pound. So really, you've lost the equivalent of 30 sticks of butter. Now...I bet it seems like more.
Congratulations!
I really knew I'd lost weight when I realised that I'd lost as much weight as our very large (16 pound) cat and our 6 pound kitten put together - or to put it another way, the equivelant of FOUR bags of kitty kibble... I still find myself questioning it occasionally, wondering whether my clothes have stretched or I've stretched the tape measure or somehow made the scale give a funny number. But put everything together and I KNOW I'm succeeding.
I don't remember what topic it was on, or who said it, but I saw a really good suggestion a few weeks ago, to show yourself that you have lost a good deal of weight. Put on a backpack of some sort, and weigh yourself with it on. Then start putting books in the backpack, until your weight with the backpack and books is equal to your original starting weight. The person was saying that it really helped them feel the difference between walking around at their old weight and how much better it felt at the new weight. It also helps to see that you lost the equivalent to such and such number of books. If I remember who said it/find the post, I'll link to it here.
Sometimes it's hard to see the new you, even when you're staring at yourself in the mirror. I have gone from a snug size 16 to a 10, and I still see the same body when I look sometimes. When you start needing to buy the next size down it will set in more. If you're really in doubt, keep your very biggest fat pants around and try them on for hard evidence that you've lost tons of weight! I'm thinking about framing mine! haha!
