10k/half marathon

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I am new to this website and this forum, but I thought it might be helpful for training tips. I am a casual runner and have ran several 5ks. I am pretty serious about losing weight and getting back into shape, and am looking to train for a 10k to a potential half marathon.

does anyone have tips or advised training schedule to help me reach my goal?

springrrr,

I have done a half marathon in April and I am doing a full marathon in October...check out this Nike website, this is the training plan that we are following (both full and half, even walkers).  There is a choice for level 1 as beginners, level 2 for intermediate and level 3 for advance.

Hope you find this helpful.

Have a good run!

I have had really good luck using runners world for my training.  They have a great smart coach where you put in how many miles you are currently running, how hard you want to train and how many weeks you want to train.  You can even input your last race and it will let you know the training pace, I just use that part as a ballpark idea.

Smart coach

Good luck in your training, I'm training for a Full marathon in Oct, and running a half in Sept.

If you live in a city with a specialty running store chances are they have a running group or a training group for races in your area.

There are also road runners clubs around the USA and they have local chapters that do training runs and clinics. They can guide you through the process.

Jeff Galloway has written some good books about training and running long distances.

Good Luck.
