Keeping track of water intake

Quote  |  Reply

Since drinking enough water is vital to weight loss I think calorie count should have an easy way to track how much water a person has drunk throughout the day. That is the only area I can think of where spark people is better than calorie counters.

Why not just add it like you add food?

I would think because differnet people need different amounts of water, and it would be cool to have a water daily goal scale much like the calories.  But, I am a visual person so I guess that is why I like the idea...

I like the idea of a water counter.  I added it with my food - but it would be better separate when you drink  8 oz here 10 oz there.  When you add it to the food counter,  you have to calculate it up yourself.  Just an extra step.

Nutridiary gives you a great visual for it, also for fruit intake, so you click glasses of water and apples accordingly, pretty neat, and you can see in a blink of an eye if you had your daily intake, I think indeed this feature would very much enhance CC!!

I do not agree. The problem main with adding "water counters" is the current majority of scientific evidence points to 1. There is no real connection between amount of water you drink and weight loss. 2. The exact amount of water that a person "needs" is based on an estimate of a range of anywhere from 25-35 ml per kg of weight and is obtained through a variety of sources including the moisture in foods as well as beverages. The bodies fluid requirements are also going to vary with environmental factors such as temperature, exercise, etc..

The beauty of cc is that it is clear and consise and based on the basic science of weight loss/gain, which is "energy in vs energy out".

If they start adding unproven things like "water rec's" than it will "muddy the waters" so to speak. This is not to say that staying well hydrated is important for overall health and for some people drinking a glass of any calorie free beverage with or before a meal can help decrease calorie intake. Just not something that needs to be added by cc.

Although i agree with the previous poster who said you can add it to your food log. Determine your own "water" or "calorie free" beverage intake goal and track it in your log.
