for my keloid scars I put vitamin E oil directly onto the scar. I did that twice a day every day. I still use lotion on them too... but the vitamin E helped them to come down a bit and fade.
There's one scar on my knee that I did the vitamin E treatment for years... and now it's no longer raised at all. It takes time for it to work, but it does.
If you have keloid skin, most doctors tell you that even surgery won't help to reduce the scars. They can't control the way it will heal, and it leads to additional scarring.... so even if you wanted to go that route, it's not generally advisable.

My daughter has keloids. She was told that it would cost over $300.00 to remove one, she has four of them. And there was no garrantee that they would come back! Our medical only covers them if they are on your face. Two of hers are behind her earlobes, from her piercings.
I also get keloids....
annoying huh?
I agree with what was said about the vitamin E cream. The bodyshop has a good vitamin E based cream, I put it on every morning or night. It does take a loooonnng time to see results but hey you get soft skin as a bonus ;)

I have 2 large ones on my chest that I got from a chicken pox scar or a blemish. I had them removed but yes...they came back much larger and it looks so bad. i cant wear low cut shirts or anything of the sort because of it. ill try the vitamin E.....but how many years does it really take? lol.......by the time they go away..ill be too old to wear low cut shirts :d
I used to have 2... one on each ear both the size of golf balls...
took 4 years, 3 operations, 17 seroid injections and 2 doses of radiotherapy to get rid of them... luckily I didn't have to pay for any of it, got to love the NHS, for all it's flaws free health service is still fantastic
I have heard that sometimes vitimin E will do the trick though

I have one on my back that the doctor took care of (well, it's about 100X better, but still not gone) with steroid injections.
For my scar on my knee... I got the cut when I was 8 years old. I started using the vitamin E oil on it when I was 16. I did surgery on the same knee for an unrelated problem and the doctor told me to use the vitamin E oil on it as soon as it scabbed over- the surgery scar didn't keloid over - I was so impressed!
Anyway, it took about 4-5 years for the other scar to come back down to a 'normal' looking scar.

i read though that vitamin e can make it worse but it looks like it works for you guys. im just afraid it will give me bad results "/
I have many scars as well and the vitamin D oil does help. If you don't have any $ olive oil works well for that and stretch marks. Overall, it took around 2-4 years for my scars to become flat. You just have to learn to love them. And if you can come up with a funny story to explain them to people that helps too. I have one on my chest and one on my back I always tell people I got shot and that is where the bullet went in and came out. Of course later I tell them it was just from 2 moles I had removed. Good luck and be patient. -Andrea
i came up with a story that i was in some other state and got locked out of my friends house while drunk..... so i went for a walk cuz they wernt home to bring me in and i got attacked by a group of girls. well, i never told that story but its what i have in my head lol.
i have 2 on my chest, one behind my ear (it looks like i have an elf ear), one on my back, and some on my arm. i hate it so much. i can be ok with the one on my ear and arm but i haaaaaaaaaate the chest one. i guess im gonna wear a scar pad everyday and put some oil or something on it half the day.... maybe 2 and 2 will help it more. i know it wont go away completely but if it was flattened and lighter...id feel better.

Surgery is a horrible idea...I had a little keloid on my shoulder. Key word had. I had it removed twice, had steroid injections, even some sort of radiation treatment. Now I'm stuck with an ugly inch long big bump. I've tried scar creams and scar patches, but before it does anything I get impatient and give up. Now I feel inspired to try putting some Vitamin E on it, hehe.
Hi - I have Keloid - and had major spinal surgery - c3-c7 --from the middle of my head to the lower part of my neck. the visual part on my neck (I have short hair-since I was shaved) was 3/4" wide and the bottom was a big round purple bulb of a scar...grossed everyone out.
My scar was so gross, it was like a frankinstine stiches - I used to scare guys at the bars just for fun- heh, it was big time surgery..
Well it started itching and clothing tabs would make it hurt- I was able to have insurance cover it by the previous remarks - hurt, itches...
Yes I did the whole E-oils and Mederma and everything everyone recommended...... doesnt work
Cortison(sp?) shots !! made the scar go down, and now my scar is leveled with my normal skin, and the color from bruised purple, to somewhat a normal color - Dermatolegy or Plastic Surgen -(make it covered by insurance...$30-$40)....(sorry my spelling is really bad- can't blame this on surgery) :) B

not sure what keloid means? is it worse than a regular scar? don't most scars fade with time?
Keloid means that you produced excess scar tissue. Usually the scar will be significanly higher than the skin around it, basically a big lump. Some people have skin that does this for every scar it's called hypertrophic scarring/keloid skin (I'm one of those lucky ones). For others it may just happen for one scar and never happen again and some never have it happen.
Vitamin E works miraculously. I used to have a bit of a Self Injuring issue which I controlled and got over but Ive had to live with the scars. I used Body shop's lotion and now, probably 6 months since my last incident Im mentally and physically hardly scarred anymore. I didnt get keloids, but if it can fade and smooth the scar tissue of a completely raw area in a matter of months, it should be able to help. I was also very strict about cleaning the cuts with alcohol and exfoliating once it did heal over... Whatever you do though, make sure to wear sunscreen so your scars dont burn or become a different color than the rest of your skin, and dont put vitamin e on anything too recent- it can make it worse if too recent aka still scabbed. A few skin care brands also carry facial creams for scarring. They are pricy for the most part, but should last a long time.
Now...... I have to go and listen to a song because 'keloid' made 'Gyakujou Tannou Keroido Miruku' stuck in my head :P Hope that gave you a little bit of info on it....

I got huge scars that covered my right hand which keloid scared when I fell of a bike. I then had the scar removed on the NHS (national health Serivce) although the scar was made smaller there was still a scar from the operation the nurse told me while the scar was still healing to massage the scar as to flatten it out i did this everytime i used my body cream i.e. twice or more and a day and put sun block on it during the summer. I think i used vit e or almond oil so long as you keep massaging that is the main thing.
Oh yes you can also get scar patches from Boots or any other chemist similar what they use for burns victims
I have lots of keloid scars on my shoulders. About 8 to be precise. So, everyone is saying that Vitamin E lotion is good to flatten them down? It sickens me to see them on me.
i had a keloid scar on my knee which was tanned, hard in texture and it itched. weeks ago it was surgically removed. i had 2 before on both knees when i was younger but they have flattened. after reading your inputs i now believe that it was a mistake and is really scared. the doctor was going to use the steroids injections but then decided to remove it instead. was this the right choice?
