Ketchup FANs!!!!!

Quote  |  Reply

Alright so here's the deal! I used to ADORE ketchup (and probably still do) but stopped eating it roughly 8 or so year ago because of it's heavy load of high fructose corn syrup... WELL today I went to the grocery store for a few odds and ends and when I came across the condiment section I saw that HEINZ had/has come out with a Reduced Sugar version of my ALWAYS favorite Heinz ketchup! I looked at the ingredients and EVERYTHING was PERFECT! (Well it's sweetened with Splenda - but I haven't had any problems with that ingredient to date so I am alright with it)... There is only 5 calories per serving & 1 grams of sugar (from the splenda)...

I was a bit hestinant to buy it... BUT I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!!!! IT'S WONDERFUL! I am remembering my youth right now! (When I was little I used to make ketchup sandwiches - with wonder bread nonetheless!)

So if any of you out there ADORE ketchup or ALL THINGS tomato for that matter - you need to get your hands on this baby! It's ROCKIN'!!!

I not to long ago got off ketchup. I couldnt eat eggs without it and over time my egg intake has seriously increased.  I came to acquire a taste for mustard which I previously had disliked.  This of course also worked for the occassional FF Hebrew National hot dog

It was just easier on the calories and NOW theyve this option.  Ugh - I dont know if Im ready to switch back but I sure hope this product sticks around in case I find myself incorporating ketchup again because I always appreciate a SF or FF option.

ketchup is the condiment of the gods!!! i wish heinz would get the sfree version over to europe! ive switched to cheap store-brand/generic ketchup... saved up to 50cals/100g in the process. its weird; the big brands always pack in the sugar!

Ketchup is a veggie in my house.  Heinz is about 50 miles from here and I know people that grow tomatoes for them.

Has anyone ever seen this movie?  I think of it everytime I have ketchup.  It was made in my area.

i saw a t shirt that said "i put ketchup on my ketchup". My FH looked at me and laughed because it was totally me! i too buy the store brand to save some $

I love Heinz ketchup and cannot stand any other brand.  They all just taste wrong.  (It's not just the label; I can tell if unlabelled ketchup at restaurants is Heinz or not.)  Anyone know what Heinz does to make their ketchup so different from the rest?

unfortunately, they add craploads of calories in the form of sugar. that is why it tastes so damn nice.Yell

Yea but the kind I found is even more NICE than the regular version because it's got no added high fructose corn syrup!!! Laughing

Ketchup makes everything taste better...and so does mustard :P

I heard people mixed it with peas and carrot...is it good?

I saw they not only had reduced sugar (by 75%) but also a no salt version.

Unfortunately they bumped the cal on No Salt while the low sugar also has less salt then regular. Below is comparison for a Tablespoon of each. None had fat so see oil wasnt added for flavor (which happens sometimes with reducing salt or sugar).

REGULAR  Calories 15   Sodium 190mg   Total Carb  4
LowSugar Calories   5   Sodium 170mg   Total Carb  1
NO SALT   Calories 25   Sodium     5mg   Total Carb  6

Ketchup is good, it saves my life on veggie burgers and tofu pups.  Barbeque sauce seriously is the best invention though.

Can you believe I have never had BBQ sauce before in my entire life! The second they come out with a sugar-free version - that tastes remotely like the real stuff, I'll try it! ha ha!

Ketchup is the best. I bought a bottle of the reduced sugar Heinz today actually, because I saw this thread and thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately I'm really not too crazy about it... I don't know what it is

What is it about tomatoes that you have to add so much sugar, vinegar and salt to make them taste good?

My compromise condiment is hot sauce, or hot sauce/ketchup mix or salsa where I used to use straight ketchup.  There's still a lot of sodium, but not so much sugar.

Dude, I totally know what you mean... I actually refrained from eating ketchup for the past 7 years. I don't quite know why, but it probably had something to do with watching my sister eat quarter-cup-fulls of ketchup on it's own, on a regular basis.... ugh. But suddenly, after not having eaten the stuff for so long I found myself in a very strange predicament. I was at work, eating my healthy lunch of a sandwich with mixed vegetables and suddenly I realized that I forgot to bring my salad dressing to dip :( ... all that was available in the staff fridge was ketchup, so I dipped my broccoli in that, not expecting much but being pleasantly surprised. The sweet, tomato-ey goodness danced off my tongue and I am once again a slave to ketchup. Strange thing is, I refuse to eat it on my hotdogs...
