i'm taking my first kickboxing class tonight! i was just wondering, how many calories would i burn in an hour session? on the martial art school's website (where i will be taking the class), they say you can burn anywhere from 500-800 calories.

i'm 20 years old, 5'3, 106 lbs., if that helps.

thanks in advance! :)

way to go crombie, you're gonna love it!  i started kickboxing classes about a month ago (1-2 times/week) and what a workout!!  you can definitely burn up to 700 cals per hour, but that's only if you keep up and give it all you got......gonna be tough, but it pays off lemme tell ya

most importantly, have fun!

i cant wait! haha .. after basically MONTHS of me and my friend saying were gonna do it, we FINALLY went out and found a place to go to. so basically i'm gonna have to make sure i eat A LOTTTT today in order to have enough energy for tonight! hah, thanks again!

lol

me and my friend talked ALL winter we were gonna start....then march rolled around and we were like "what the f***?".....but i'm so glad we finally did

good idea to eat a lot but don't eat TOO much :)  eat some slowly digestible food about an hour before class starts up (i.e. peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat...mmm my fave) that way you'll have continuous energy

I started going to kickboxing classes about a year ago and I love them!

The only thing I'm going to say is this:  the first three classes or so, you're going to feel a little lost and maybe even a little frustrated.  I know I did!  Just know if you are confused on ANYTHING or aren't sure if you're doing it correctly, stay after class and talk with the instructor.

But, stick with it for about a month and then make a decision on whether or not you would like to continue the class.  It's all about muscle memory and once you get that down you'll really be able to burn the calories!

I agree with theferet, you can burn up to 700 calories in a typical kickboxing class.

Good luck tonight!

Hiya!  I've been kickboxing for 5 years and I LOVE it.  You can definetly burn 500-700 per class but it all depends on how much you put into it.  It also depends on the kind of class also.  A Cardio Kickboxing class will burn a good amount of calories but if you are trying out an actual club that's like a karate club the first couple weeks of classes probably won't burn that much for you because you'll be working on technique a lot.

All in all though, no matter which one you try they are all good exercise and a full body workout.  There's also no limit to how much and how far you can go.  I actually fight but there are a lot of people at my gym that just do it for fun and exercise.  You'll meet lots of great people too!

Have fun!
