Kicking & Screaming
I know that I will drag myself to the gym tonight despite my lack of motivation today. I mean, this is the least motivated I've been in months. It's weird. Anyways, what keeps YOU going to the gym or working out when you don't want to do it?
I feel guilty if i dont work out on days i usually do. And i hate feeling that. . Also think about how good you feel after working out. I love to see how my burn meter goes up once i enter my activities for the day ![]()
Soooo...go go go!
I have trouble with this also, the past three weeks have been good, though. I tell myself that I can do at least 8 minutes (I use my treadmill at home with Podrunner beats per minute workouts), but by the time that I have done it, my body is warmed up and I want to do more. Then I tell myself that I want to do 20 minutes and by then I am sweating and getting the "rush" and I tell myself "just another mile" and at that point I forget about keeping track of the time or distance, I just go. So my mantra is "just 8 minutes..." and it has been a great motivator to me. So, just starting is my method.
For me, the thing that keeps me motivated is switching up my routine all the time. I do best if I have goals I'm working towards. Right now I'm working towards
- 5 pounds higher weight on the 5 new exercises I started last week
- Staying "in zone" on my heart rate monitor through an entire spin class
- Running 3 miles without stopping (last week I did 2.5)
- Running 30 minutes on "level 3: hill" at 5 mph (I did 4.5 mph last week)
All these mini-goals keep me excited to see how I do each time.
Good luck!!!
i know i'll feel 110% better if i get through it. just 10 minutes into my run and i'm warmed up, and when i'm done, i feel a MILLION times better..tonight will be an example of that for me, too...
Routine is my friend. And mornings. Has to be a morning work out.
Get up, deal with the furkids, put on the gym clothes and go. Every day. If I have to be into work earlier, I get to the gym earlier.
Thing is, for me, if I do not work out first thing in the morning, there's a little switch in my brain that flips and gives me full license to eat anything I want for the rest of the day. Sort of the whole "I ate one cookie so eff it, might as well eat the box" thing. If I've spent 1.5 hours in the gym that day, you can be damn sure I'm not going to blow that effort. I picked that little gem up as a rower---it's pretty amazing how having already put in 2 hard hours of exercise by 7:30 am affects your choices for the rest of the day.
Hmm I like going to the gym, looking forward to what I'll be able to accomplish that day. I feel gross if I haven't gotten a good work out in. I am addicted I think, I actually find it harder to skip a day at the gym than to get myself in there.
for me when i get bored, i try to switch up my routine....go outside for a run one day, go to the gym the next. the next i'll do something else outside. i've definitely gotten into a funk or period of time when i'm seriously lacking motivation to workout. i do feel worse when i don't...going more than 3 days w/out exercise makes me very moody! haha. i just think about my body and my progress and take it one day at a time. i do remind myself how good i'll feel after and without fail, i do feel awesome after! anyway, good luck!!
forgot to add...maybe you could join a club team if you live in/near a city? i live in baltimore and there are all kinds of club sports teams like volleyball, softball, flag football, field hockey, etc. that will make you workout and be fun!
