your kidding me right ?
so, my father doesn't believe in healthy eating and i have to cram his junk down my throat at supper time, well tonight he decides to cook a pork roast, potatoes and veggies, soooooo i imagine i'll have 1 slice of roast so i go on here and log it and to my suprise a peice of roast is 400 and some calories ! ! ! you've got to be kidding me i can't put that in my body !? it's only 5 oclock !? how will i manage the rest of the day ! my supper is like 580 cals. my question is, is this nutirional info right ? or possbily (hopefully) a little lower!
It all comes down to portion size, my dear. A serving of protein (3 ounces) is about the size of a deck of cards. Having outrageous portions will give you unnecessary calories, but having dinner total up to 580 calories will NOT make you blow up into a balloon. It takes 3,500 calories to make someone gain a pound, and I highly doubt you'll take 3,500 calories in one meal. Dinner for me usually totals up to around 600 calories anyway.
Besides, pot roast is healthy! Pot roast with potatoes and vegetables sounds like a nutrient dense and delicious meal. Instead of focusing on "calories", try focusing on all the yummy goodness you are feeding your body.
I looked it up, and you have to eat a 9-oz. slice of roast to get over 400 calories. That's a hefty piece of pork!
I have always told my clients that despite their diet, if they stuck to it 24/7, they get bored with it or may even give up. Follow your diet and have 1 cheat meal per week when you just eat whatever to reward yourself for being good all week. That supper sounds delicious and packed with protien and nutrients. I agree with Hailtothethief. The thing is not so much what the cals are, but eating "smart" i.e. "portion control" to adjust the cals to the needed requirements.
well i had a portion size of what your supposed to have for meat (a deck of cards) but i have nooo sweet clue like how many ounzes or whatever it would be.
So even if you ate a whole 4 oz. of roast, it was less than 200 calories- nothing to get upset about!
oh okay ! that makes more sense, i was confused cause i couldn't see how there were 400 calories in that amount ! haha thank you :)

umm yes, in theory... you would have to eat 3500calories MORE THEN YOU BURN to gain a pound... so if you burn 2000cal a day, you would have to eat 5500calories to gain a pound.
but thats a lot of food... most people dont eat that much over their intake,, but if you were to consume an additional couple hundred calories more then you burn over the course of a few days without additional excersize to burn them off, then yes you may gain a pound
one day now and then over your intake isn't going to hurt you... as long as you keep your eating consistent the rest of the time
eating that one cookie didnt make you 'fat', just like how not eating that one cookie doesnt make you 'skinny'... it takes time. Your weight is related to your diet over the course of time, not just one day. You don't get fat overnight, just like you dont get skinny overnight.
That's so true carmenxox!
Sometimes i wish it worked the other way round! Like if you have a good day, you will be skinny and if you have a day where you eat a lot then you get bigger.
I suppose i just get frustrated with weightloss being so slow!

I'm sorry, I don't believe I did anything to rattle YOUR cage, so why are you rattling mine?
To the OP... the best bit of kit in the weight-loser's armoury is the kitchen scale. If you invest a little money in a platform-style 'add and weigh' scale you will find it invaluable. Place your dinner plate on top of the scale, zero it, and then add your portion of whatever. You may get strange looks at first but very, very quickly you'll understand just how big a 4oz piece of meat or a 6oz baked potato actually appears on your plate. Once you've done it a few times you'll be able to judge portions more easily by eye and you can use the scale to spot check from time to time. And then calorie-counting is a lot less hit and miss.
Good luck

Huh? LOL
I really read cherryjanes post as a comical look at her own eating habits. . . (I was going to type almost the same thing)
Too defensive around these forums lately.
Man I love pot roast. ![]()

Er... what? I fail to see how that could be construed as offensive!
Thanks Igloogal!!
