Kind of Starving

Quote  |  Reply

It's friday night, 11:00pm, and I'm kind of starving. I mean like hungry. I don't mind it too much, but is it normal? I cut my calorie intake to 1200cal/day because I don't exercise at all and the calorie target recomended it. Yesterday I ate around 900cal and today around 1,200cal. I am 5'4 and 160lbs

I am drinking slim fast for breakfast & lunch, along with fruit and crakers. For dinner I just have a frozen dinner-I never cook. I wouldn't feel so hungry all the time if I ate several meals during the day but I can't. When I eat, I have to get the 'full' feeling. Like I can't stop just having a half a sandwich or a small salad, I will end up eating more which will make me eat more calories at the end of the day. So this is why I can only eat 3x/day and feel 'full' and feel hungry the rest of the time. When I am hugry I feel good, like I am loosing weight and I feel gross when I am full. Am I making any sense?

I had an eating disorder when I was 14/15 and I don't want to fall into the same path, but it's all I know. Is it normal to feel this way?

Help, anyone, please? =D

You need to up your calories - that's why you're so hungry!  According to your profile you're 18 (right?), teens should eat more calories than 1200/day because your body is still growing.  So, the adult CC calculators are not accurate for you.  I'm sure someone more knowledgable will speak up and tell you how much more to eat, but in the meantime - at the very least, you should eat the 300 calories you missed out on yesterday.

It may be wrong, but I LIKE feeling full. I found the easiest and most low-cal way to do this is by adding raw veggies to every meal. Carrots....you can eat 85g for 35 calories!!!! Celery is even lower in calories, but just as bulky.

I know that frozen dinners make it harder to feel satisfied. As humans, the 'eating' begins when we start cooking....the smells, the satisfaction in 'creating' a meal. If you have to use pre-made meals, do so....but spend the few minutes this meal is cooking by chopping carrots, broccoli, celery, green peppers, radishes (anything you like).

When I have sandwiches, I supplement with raw vegetables. It is easy and convienient and gives me the full feeling I like. I also drink about 12-20 oz of water with each meal, I like to drink as I eat.

Oh, and.....our bodies get feedback through chewing. By drinking your calories, you aren't going to feel as full. Maybe think about planning lunches and breakfasts for the same amount of calories.....but SOLID foods. That way you can feel your food a little bit more.

PM me if you want :)

I am eating about 1200 cal/day and not really feeling hungry. Eating solid food for breakfast and lunch really helps!  I mean 1 can of slim fast is 190 calories! that's a lot for something that is liquid. for 190 calories I can eat 2 slices of whole grain wheat bread(60 cal /slice) AND a whole ounce of 1/3 reduced fat cream cheese (taste like the real thing and is only 70 cal/oz or about 2 tablespoons)! with 190 you can also eat 1/2 cup of oatmeal (about 1.5 cups cooked) + some frozen fruit. Other filling choices such as cereal and yogurt.

for the above  you don't really need to be able to cook.

lunch you can easily do sandwiches if you don't really want to look. again for about 190 calories, you can have lettuce wraps(saves some calories from carbs) that have deli meat (ham turkey etc. just buy the low fat ones) and some cheese if you want. wrap in some fresh romaine. YUM! then eat up lots of fruits.

in the afternoon, i normally have a snack 100 cal - 200 cal snack

I think simply just switching from slim fast shakes to healthy solid food choices would help a lot.

I eat about 1200cal/day , but  I cook for myself, so i normally have some starch (rice , pasta) every meal + veggies! and a bit for meat for lunch and dinner. You can do a lot of 1200 calories if you eat the right food.

What does your burn metre recommend that you should eat for a day?

When you log in your foods each day, what is the carb/fat/protein %'s?  If your fats and proteins are too low, you will be hungrier.

Eating real foods that are calorie dense will help you feel fuller.  Try to make food gram totals as close to your calories intake as possible.

Alle is right. The reason you are so hungry is because you are not eating enough. As a teen, the absolute minimum that you should be eating is 1500 cals a day, and if your active more.
