What kind of yogurt do you eat?
Since most forum posters seem to think the Yoplait light yogurt I eat is the food of the devil, I figure I'd better consider some alternatives!
I eat my yogurt for breakfast, maybe twice a week, with some grape nuts mixed in. Sometimes fruit as well. I would prefer cheap-ish, and something I'm able to find in a grocery store and not have to go to Whole Foods for, as there isn't one near me.
Suggestions?
I like astro's original balkan yogurt. I can add almost anything to it. I also use it place of sour cream.
It also has only three ingredients, skim milk, cream and active bacterial cultures. When I buy processed foods, I like to buy stuff with less then five ingredients.
I buy a plain organic yoghurt called 'Yeo Valley' but the brand isn't all that important... I sometimes get the supermarket own-label. I never buy the stuff marked as 'fat-free' because I think, for the tiny difference in calories, it can just be thin and acidic.
I am not sure why Yoplait would be so bad other then it contains artificial sweetner. Anyhow how about dannon plain that you can add your own items like fruit or cereal to add flavor? At my grocery though it is expensive still they carry fage and okios which I like. At Super Walmart it is much cheaper. I think Stonyfield makes some regular yogurt as well. If you like the yoplait light though I think it is still a good choice.
I buy big tubs of plain, full-fat yogurt, I used to buy the one brand the supermarket carrys of full-fat yogurt (as opposed to the 50 different varieties of low-fat, individually packaged yogurt-like substances) though lately I've been getting it at the farmers market.
Astro BioBest plain (1% mf) is the BEST. I use it for so many things...with honey or jam mixed in for breakfast, as the base of a dip or salad dressing, as a replacement for sour cream, in cheesecake and other dessert recipes, it's just fantastic. I've never been a fan of plain yogurt by itself, but a couple of weeks ago I was on antibiotics and needed to replace all my killed bacteria so just started taking random spoonfuls right from the tub, and it was good even on it's own! Shouldn't have been surprised, it's like miracle yogurt. And not only does it taste great, one of the best features of it is that it reduces very nicely. Many low-fat yogurts contain a lot of thickeners and just won't reduce no matter how long you drain them.
It's also great for digestive system health, since I started eating it regularly I have much fewer stomach issues, but I don't think that's unique to this yogurt....just another added feature!
I like the yoplait fat-free yogurts. The ones with the goofy commercials with Richard Simmons!
I love the key lime pie, lemon cream pie, boston cream pie, orange cream and very vanilla. Yummm.
I buy several kinds, but as far as normal yogurt goes I always buy Stoneyfield Farm's plain nonfat or lowfat yogurt. I really don't like the sweetness of flavored yogurts and I definitely would never buy the artificially sweetened types either.
I buy nearly every brand of Greek yogurt as long as they are the plain 0% variety. I like Chobani, Fage, Voskos, Oikos, Siggi's, Greek Gods, Trader Joe's, and pretty much any other kind out there.
i LOVE greek gods yogurt. I get the plain and its 6oz for 60 calories.
I buy Liberte's organic probiotic Svelte Yogurt in vanilla in the 750g tub. I go threw it like crazy and eat it nearly everyday. My regular grocery store only carries their Svelte variety in vanilla and plain (boo!). Although, the natural food store I go to carries it in a few other flavours like strawberry, raspberry and peach. I cannot wait to try them all next time I head over there (which is in a few days, YAY!).
I mostly get Stonyfield Farms yogurt - nothing artificial, though there can be lots of sugars added to the flavored ones.
i get activia light for my mid afternoon snack
Brown Cow in the quart tubs. I don't eat much yogurt, mostly use it on top of Indian food, so I buy the full-fat (they do have low fat, as well). When I do eat it, I add my own fruit, or homemade jam, or honey to make it lightly sweet. It is much cheaper not to buy those little individual packages. Here in California it is available at many supermarkets.
I buy Stonyfield Farm Organic Yougrt. It's 75 cents a cup. Not bad for being organic, pretty cheap & very healthy. And it taste so good...yum! And they have coupons on the lids. So you buy 4 and get 1 free.
I eat full-fat plain yogurt - I find a little bit of it with honey is more satisfying than a lot of fat-free yogurt. I'm not fussy as to brand, although I like the Greek style yogurt better, as it's creamier.
If I'm using yogurt in a recipe I'll use low-fat or fat-free.
I wish they sold Greek yogurt in Canada, I've been looking and can't find it anywhere.
I'm really not an advocate of dairy products, and eat dairy very rarely... but for the higher protein and lower carb count of Greek yogurt, I'm rather curious to try it.
...but I have a feeling I'm gonna be pretty disapointed when I do find it
If you don't eat dairy, Stonyfield Organic has soy yogurt. In my opinion it's just as good. I don't know if they sell it in Canada though...

Stoneyfield is available in Canada. I have tried a few flavours.
I like the plain fat-free Yoplait. It has a much shorter list of ingredients than the flavoured kinds but still has that nice light texture. (I am not a fan of my dairy being "creamy" except for ice cream and, well, cream.)
Oh, well, I didn't know. :)
Fage 2% Greek with a drizzle of raw honey.
