There are 2 kinds of fiber????

Quote  |  Reply
I just read this article on fiber on cc.com:

"But before we hand out the gold medal, let’s have a closer look at this champion. It turns out, namely, that not all fiber comes with the same benefits. For example, bran will mostly get you larger and softer tools. This kind of fiber "bulks up" waste and moves it through the colon more rapidly, which is not a bad thing, but probably not what you were looking for.

Strangely, the fat-fighting property of fiber is found in gums and pectin's. They keep cholesterol under control by removing bile acids that digest fat. The same types of fiber may regulate blood sugar as well. This is accomplished by coating the gut's lining and causing the previously mentioned delay in stomach emptying. "

So which foods contain these "fat-fighting" gum & pectin fiber??

Have I been wasting my time ingesting the 23 grams from my Allbran in the morning?

Hmmm....I haven't heard it called "gum" or "pectin" fiber before....but I CAN tell you this much: oatmeal contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. At least the rolled oats variety does. We eat ours with a little skim milk and a little REAL maple syrup. Mm! Try it!  You might just like it` and it's So good for you! Signed, Bubbasgirl, currently adding foods online for my husband, bubbadan.

I've haven't heard that either.  Maybe it is fiber found in fruits and vegetables rather than oats and wheat????
