kiwi sadness

Quote  |  Reply
I love kiwi's and just bought some for first time in ages.  I am sad to see they barely have any fiber and are 25 cal for each one.

Here is the listing for Kiwi on the worlds healthiest foods site:

http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=foodspic e&dbid=41#healthbenefits

High in FIBER and vitamin C, kiwi is a great low calorie choice (although about 45-50 calories, not 25 unless you got some unusually tiny kiwi).

Enjoy!
i like fruit with low fat yogurt and grape nuts :o) that might be a good way to get them with some fiber... also, kiwi are full of other nutrients! each one has enough vitamin c for your whole day, and i just googled them- they've been linked a reduction in blood clots and improved respiratory health in children. don't feel guilty about your kiwi!
thanks.  I didn't know they had Vit. C.  I have been trying to eat it, rather than drink O.J.  yes, that site has calories listed higher.  That's a good site.
So, as crazy as it may sound, I eat the skin on the kiwi.  It is edible.  It is a weird texture, but it has extra fiber and the fruit itself is so sweet and juicy that the skin isn't overpowering.
girlier -- do you "shave" it first?  I've heard of other's doing that (eating it peel and all), but can't seem to wrap my head around the fuzz.
Funny..never met anyone who ate the entire Kiwi like me...I love it that way and think it is very tasty!!!...takes less time to eat as well..skipping the cutting process...lol

Lol!  Oh man guys, i don't "shave" the kiwi first.

I just kind of jumped into this one.  I am not so great at getting the peel off in the first place and so i just tried eating the peel, and i started off just having a few bites of it, and then once i was used to it, i just ate the whole peel.  And now i feel like it would be a waste of time for me to take the peel off.  ha. Although, i do always buy organic kiwis so that i am not ingesting any chemicals that are on the peel.  Give it a try!

Hey guys.. I love Kiwi and it is actually a healthy choice. sometimes, I eat it as it is:)) no peeling nothing.. it is all natural:) but I do that ONLY when I buy organic ones.

Ohio45: Kiwi is a healthy food. You could add it to your yogurt or cottage cheese.
well, then -- I'm stopping at Wegmans on my way to the hotel and I'm gonna pick up some organic ones and try them without peeling first....
maybe we could eat the skin on all fruit;  bananas, oranges,  (just kidding).  I want to hear what coach thinks of it.

I've always eaten then plain or in fruit salad, but will try adding one to some cottage cheese.  thanks for the idea.

Oh!! :o

I never knew you could actually eat the skin on kiwi!!!

Wow, I kinda wanna try it... that is suchhh a new idea for me.

I bet its nutritious in some way and very high in fiber!!
guys :) don't hate me if you don't like the taste. OK? :))

wash it very well and choose organic.
Eating with the skin on?? ....hmm....im afraid to ask how you eat eggs ><
Loriklorik: please ask as many questions as you want:) I don't eat eggs because the yolks have sat fats.. so I buy egg whites...much better and has all the protein that I want.

I will tell you something. If I have to eat the eggshell to lose weight, I will do it:)  I swear.

By the way, kiwi with the skin on is not that bad because the skin is very thin.

well -- I'm here to report that the kiwi with the skin on was not bad -- not bad at all.  I actually liked it a little better because I like things tart and sometimes kiwis are too sweet -- but the flesh by the skin is more tart.  thanks for posting that you could eat the skin.

I didn't eat the ends -- probably could have, chose not too.

For the record -- I will NOT eat eggshells to lose weight -- you crazy safina Laughing
