I went from 112 to 117 pounds. I could not be happier with my progress, although i am beginning to notice that it is all going to my middle :) Is exercise generally bad when one is trying to gain? If not what sort of exercises would be good to help direct the calorie's from my tummy to other parts of my body. I noticed that my arms and calves need to plump up more. What are my options?
Unfortunately you cannot spot gain. Your body puts the weight where it want to. When I gained weight I too got it all in my stomach but it will even out, trust me. It may take awhile, but it will. You just have to be patient :)
About the exercise part, I think exercise is perfectly acceptable during recovery/weight gain, unless you are advised by a doctor or someone else that it would be unsafe to. Strength training is great b/c it ensures that you gain muscle. Cardio in limited amounts is fine, but since you mainly burn fat during cardio, it can hinder progress. If you decide to exercise, make sure and up your cals too. Hope this helped!
The exericise thing really depends. When I was instructed to gain, I wasn't allowed to do any exercise...period. I had to quit my softball team my senior year of high school when I'd been playing sicne I was 7 just because I was pretty much not supposed to move. But I think they overdid it, and honestly, gaining muscle weight in addition to fat weight while trying to gain would have saved me from going crazy and undoing all the weight gain once I didn't have to count anymore.
I understand why doing some exercises would not be beneficial, especially for someone who has ed. I do not suffer from ed, but from an abnormal metabolism. Strength training sounds like a great idea, with cardio I would be worried that I would lose what I worked on. Thank you both for the advice!
