You need to eat to lose. I agree that you may have a eating problem. I have recovered from a ED and I cant tell you any thing good that I went through. Eat 1200 calories anything under your body starts eating off of its self. That's when all your organs will fail. If you eat write you will lose.....

YES you have an eating problem. Soon, if not already, you're going to have WAY more than just an eating problem if you keep this up.

Undereating/eating every other day is an unhealthy habit, and one that is commonly connected to an eating disorder such as EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.) Ubdereating/eating every other day is often considered to be a precursor to more dramatic behaviors and should be considered a warning sign.

Do I Have An Eating Disorder? can help you determine if you have an eating disorder.

You need to EAT in order to lose weight in a healthful manner, with a REASONABLE deficit of 500 to 1,000 calories and not more.

I encourage you to check out the information in the library from our Eating Disorder Guide, Matthew Tiemeyer.

500 calories is the same as was fed to concentration camp victims in WWII.  Most of them starved to death.  You are starving, even if you don't feel hungry.  You do need to see a doctor as soon as possible.  I hope you make the smart decision and talk to your mother as suggested.

I'm sure others will contribute to this discussion with far more expertise than anything I can offer you.  Please seek help!

STARVATION MODE ~ LESS THAN 500 CALORIES

This is a great website dedicated to helping people manage their weight in a healthy manner.  Did you know that the bare minimum a woman should ever eat is 1200 calories a day?  This is a widespread recommendation by the medical community and eating less puts you at risk and should only be done under the supervision of your healthcare provider.

But even 1,200 calories a day may be too little and put you at risk of losing too rapidly.  The other main guideline would be to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week which is considered a safe rate of weight loss by the medical community.  To lose 1 lb a week, you would try to keep a 500 calorie deficit per day (double that for 2 lbs/week). [you have to cut back 3,500 cals to lose 1 lb; if you divide that over 1 week, that is 500 cals x 7 days = 3,500]

Here's a nice explanation of the starvation mode theory and why it's better to try for a weight loss of 1 - 2 lbs a week...

You're young, and probably still growing, girlie. You need to eat more than 500 calories a day. Like others have told you, at least 1200.

I'm not a mental health expert, so I can't tell you if you have an eating disorder or not, but if the counselor at school thinks you might, I think you should take some time to think about it.

Maybe there are some things you need to talk to someone about in your life?

Problems at home or at school? Food is rarely ever the real problem, just as alcohol and drugs are usually just a symptom of a different issue.

If anything is bothering you, find someone you trust..an adult..to talk with okay?

In the meantime, eat at least 1200. You won't gain weight, I promise.

Take some vitamins too, if you can..your poor little body needs them!

NO.  You do not need to exercise more.  You need to EAT more.  Weight loss stops eventually when someone is not eating enough.  You are not eating enough.  After doing that for a while, the body gets smart and starts learning how to function on fewer calories.  Therefore, you don't burn as many calories a day.  This leads to not losing as much weight.  The only way to correct this (and your metabolism) is to eat above your maintenance until your body gets used to being fed enough.

Your poor body has no fuel so it has adapted to survive on the miniscule amount you are putting into it.  It does this by slowing down your metabolism to a halt, so you will not be able to lose weight.  And as you are not providing fuel, your body is cannibalising itself; this means instead of running on food, it is breaking down your muscles and organs and using them for fuel.  This is as dangerous as it sounds so please take everyone's advice and eat at least 1200 calories a day, and they need to be very nutritious to repair the damage, so get yourself to a nutritionist if you can.

What the heck?

500 calories is the size of ONE MEAL for me and I am the same weight as you but taller.

500 calories a day is STARVATION. It IS starving yourself.

The fact that you do not think 500 calories a day is staving yourself means you have a problem with the way you view food.

Did you really go 2 weeks without a single bite of food? Honestly, I would die if I did that…. It is very, very unhealthy, and I have no idea WHY you would want to do that every month.

The way you think about food is VERY abnormal and you should talk to an expert about it; your life is at stake here, so despite the financial burden your life is worth it.

i dont think its that bad

i dont get y iam not lossing weight because 3 years ago when i did this i lost a lot really fast so y did it change i dont think iam not doing any thing diffrent this time?

It IS that bad.

Whatever you did 3 years ago, you need to forget about.  3 years ago you were younger.  Our bodies change and they don't react the same as we get older.

You need to listen to what we are saying.  I'll repeat what topanga said since you are not listening:

This is a great website dedicated to helping people manage their weight in a healthy manner.  Did you know that the bare minimum a woman should ever eat is 1200 calories a day?  If you are a teen, you need to add 300 calories to that for no less than 1500 a day.  This is a widespread recommendation by the medical community and eating less puts you at risk and should only be done under the supervision of your healthcare provider.

You are undereating.  Don't look at what you did in the past.  Look at what you are doing now.  If you don't want to listen to our advice, then that's your right.  But you can't come here and post about eating 500 calories a day if you are not willing to try to raise that to an apropriate level.  It is against our guidelines.

This site is dedicated to healthy weight management.  What you are doing is not healthy, and we cannot condone posts of starvation level diets.
