I know it may sound gross...

Quote  |  Reply

but I made something today after my workout that was absolutely awesome. I went to the dining hall and they had absolutely nothing at the salad bar...no broccoli, no beets, no beans. Only shredded cheese, artichokes (which were drenched in oil), and potato salad. Therefore I wanted something to mix with my spinach. I decided to go for some hard boiled egg whites. I put 7 hard boiled egg whites into the spinach and then mixed in about 4-5 tablespoons of hummus. It didn't look to appetizing when I first saw the result but I'm telling you it was so good. Has this happened to anyone else, thinking that something sounded/looked disgusting but you ended up loving it?

I EAT THE EXACT SAME THING FROM MY DINING HALL!

That's funny, all my friends look at me like I'm crazy/gross

Most of what I eat is like that. I mix cottage cheese with baked sweet potato. I mix tuna or salmon with Jalapeño peppers and olives. I put apple sauce on my pancakes and waffles. If it tastes good eat it. Smile

I do that too, its good : P

I have a mathematical equation for mine.

Hotsauce^2 + X = delicious. Some of them are combinations that people have shuddered at, but I can't say all of them are healthy. Maybe I'm having a hard time thinking of "strange" combos because I think they're normal, lol.

I mix carrot pieces and tuna fish and eat it with nothing else (lol, except for hot sauce!). Does that count? And I dip celery into cans of condensed potato soup.

(I am the ultimate poor college student type?)

I know!! when my friends see me do it they think it is gross. I love it. I also mix cottage cheese with tuna, salmon or beans and make a wrap or pita with hot peppers or hot sauce.

Cinnamon on potatoes. Not sweet potatoes (though that's tasty too), but normal white ones. It's a lovely flavour enhancer to them but my mum gives me such a wierd look! xD

You should try and strain the artichokes and have those with spinach & hard boiled egg whites - I promise you will LOVE this combo!!!

Something else I make that is really good is spaghetti squash with fried cabbage. You peal the squash and microwave it in a steamer bag until done.

Boil savoy or regular cabbage until tender. Then sauté garlic and onion in a frying pan with 0 calorie olive oil cooking spray add the cabbage and some onion and garlic powder. Fry until golden brown. Mix with the spaghetti squash. It is really good.

i replace milk with yogurt for my breakfast cereal. like 'kashi go lean' and 'go lean crunch' with 'danon light and fit'. much more satisfying than milk. my family gives me weird looks.

Wow I wish my dining hall had artichokes.  Too cheap, I guess XD

Yes, I love it. I use to make it all the time with pasta, egg noodles and still do sometimes but once I realized how good spaghetti squash tastes, how good it is for you and how few calories it has I was hooked. Smile I use it with pasta sauce too just like regular spaghetti. Another thing I like is couscous mixed with veggies or spaghetti squash. I love spinach too. I love it in salad or cooked and mixed in almost anything. I cut it up very small and mix it in pasta sauce, casseroles and things I cook in the crock pot.

That actually sounds really good! Sort of like hummus egg sald with spinach...

I love beans, especially mashed, but they're too calorie dense for me to eat them alone and be satisfied. So I'll grab whatever steamed/boiled veggies we have on hand, like broccoli, add it to beans, cut it up or mash into small pieces with a fork, add curry powder and mix. It's the best thing ever, but my family says it looks gross.

Oh well. Also works with cauliflower, chayote, mushrooms, green beans... yum!

I do this too, sweet potato with mashed black beans and cottage cheese on top, such a filling dinner
