Ok,I know this is not normal...

But I weigh myself EVERY day. I've read on here that most people advise against that so that you focus on the long term. HOWEVER, I have one of those scales that shows my weight down to the tenth of the pound, and I've found that is a huge motivator - I get just as excited if I've lost .02 pounds as if I lost 2, and I get to feel that rush and sense of accomplishment every day. And...if I am up - even if by a little - it helps me redouble my committment to keep eating right that day. So, I guess I am going against the grain but I find it really helps me with that need for immediate gratification.

Yeah, I totally was way unhappier when I only weighed myself once a week. I weigh myself before bed and in the morning to see how much the magic night time fairies take away while I'm sleeping. I weigh after I poo, because I find it amusing. So many times my weight makes a huge dip during the week and then I eat something huge and salty right before my weekly "weigh-in," and it all disappears. I would be so discouraged if I didn't know that I had a loss that was being masked by some sodium. But since I weigh myself more often, I know exactly what is going on.

I think that if you are more curious about how your weight changes throughout the day/week than obsessed with seeing it go down each time you step on the scale, weighing whenever you feel like it is a perfectly normal idea.

i also weight myself almost every day. even when i have gone a little off kilter and eaten everything in sight! i will weigh myself to kick my own butt back into gear the next day.

like both of you i weigh myself every time i walk into my bathroom. its entertaining to see how the weight fluccuates during the day from a nice low number in the morning to about 2 lbs heavier right before bed then low low low again the next morning.

i am bummed right now because i am house sitting at my parents house and havent stepped on a scale in almost a week. but i have been doing well with my calorie count so i am not nervous about getting home and able to hop on my scale on friday! Yeah for CC!!!

Who cares about "normal", at least in this case!!!!!!!!!

I weigh myself daily too. It's all in attitude. If it's a diet-breaker for you, don't do it. Attitude is important to success.

It helps me to track my weight as a measure of success. The thing I suggest is to be consistent. Weight fluctuates naturally through the day. Try to weigh at a certain time daily, preferably on the same scale. For me, it's right before I eat dinner, at 9:00. (I work nights, so that's NOT as late as it sounds:-) )

Remember, though. Muscle weighs more than Fat! When you get to a certain point, you'll be losing inches without losing weight as fast.

I am the same, I weight myself as often as possible as if its up it just encourages me to try harder.

However it freaks me out how it fluctuates during the day, mine can honestly vary up to 2.5kgs in one day. Should you take the lowest weight at face value? Thats what I tend to do =P

I do every day because it takes away the scale's power. Do it weekly and you live in fear of what it says. Do it every day and you can't, because you just get used to it flipping around and doing what it wants to, and you're forced to pay attention only to the trend.

Weighing daily has actually been shown to help people lose and to prevent gain.

Paying attention to the trend rather than your actual daily weight is the best way to track your weight anyway. To have an accurate trend you pretty much have to weigh daily.

I like to weigh every day because I fluctuate a lot...water and food weight (TMI warning; Redundant Colon). If I only weighed once a week I wouldn't know if I was weighing on a heavy food day or if it was a water retention day and it would drive me nuts.

Fortunately, I don't worry too much if I'm two pounds heavier than I was the day before. As long as I see a new low at least once during the week I know I'm showing progress. But if you're like some and freak over a couple pound difference from day to day or convince yourself that you've actually gained 2lbs of fat in an hour, weekly weighing may be better.

I weigh just once during the day, at the same time under the same conditions. To each their own in regards to scale use.

i weigh most days but not excessively and il only stand on the scales once and take it at face value (unless it seems realllllllly out and then il double check lol) but im not fussed about weight gain its just im so interested by body fluctuations lol!

I also weigh in every day. It helps keep me in check and it also has helped me determine some patterns. For example if I lose a pound or so I will fluctuate back and forth for about a week or two and then I'll lose another pound. So whatever works for you to lose the weight than it can't be a bad thing.

I can't tell you how happy I am to find this thread!  I thought I was crazy or not normal because I weigh every day.  I have always read where you shouldn't but that never stopped me.  And since I have been trying to lose this last time, I have found in the evenings when I get an urge to have a snack, I go weigh myself and it (so far) always makes me change my mind about the snack.  If my weight is down, I don't want to eat the snack and see my loss go away.  If my weight is up, I don't want the snack because I don't want to gain any more.  I know it's crazy, but right now it's working for me.

The only times I have ever successfully lost weight is when I've weighed myself every day. It keeps me focused and motivates me.

I lost 50 lbs several years ago. When I stopped weighing myself daily... it all came back +10. Now I'm down almost 30 again, but have a ways to go. If I had weighed myself daily during that time I don't think I'd have gained so much back.

Do whatever works for you and good luck!

i weigh myself everyday also! you're not alone :) i just keep track of it officially once a week.. but i kinda like seeing my weight go up and down everyday. it helps me stay in check and prevents surprises.. so don't worry! as long as you realize that your weight will fluctuate a lot throughout the week, you're fine.

I think plenty of people weigh themselves once a day. Some twice a day, morning and night. Its when your weighing yourself after meals, trips to the bathroom, glasses of water, compulsively that it is a problem and "abnormal".

Keeping an eye on your weight isn't a bad thing, infact I think it would be smarter to weigh yourself daily or everyother day rather than only once a week. That way if after 3 days youve gained, you know you have to change something as opposed to going 7 days and then seeing a big gain and feeling overwhelmed. Only my opinion-everyone is different.

I love weighing myself every day because it allows me to see what's going on with my body in correlation to what I eat, when I eat, when I void and defecate... I just think it's all incredibly interesting. I don't do this compulsively, I just did it as an experiment.

It's not so bad to weigh every day as long as you acknowledge that fluctuations are a part of life. But when it comes to weight loss motivation, I like to look at the pants that are now falling down my butt and draping off of my feet.

Now for my LULZ TMI moment so don't read if you're all squeamish like...

I once lost 6 1/2 pounds of impacted feces in 2 hours. I hadn't gone in like a month, and I took some... crazy disgusting laxative (phosph...soda...something). How did I do it? I somehow thought that Wendy's burgers, fries etc would be a GREAT idea. I also had a habit of not chewing well. I had like 3g of fiber per day. GREAT IDEA. loL!
