It would push your body into starvation mode and seriously screw with your metabolism (permanently), but yes, you probably would lose weight.
Yes for a while, but it's not healthy. Your body needs a good 1200 calories a day to function and do what it needs to do. Without those nutrients you can cause damage to many things in your body. That's why some diets are considered unsafe... when they limit certain nutrients and such. (like the Atkins and the minimal carb intake) Besides, without food, where are you going to get the energy to exercise?
yes, it sounds anorexic, as you point out.
Why are you asking this?

Excellent reference site. I found a lot of their articles helpful. This one might better explain why fasting isn't a good way to lose weight.

something has been baffling me about Gastric Bypass surgeries...
I understand how the doctors make the stomach the size of a thumb- what I don't understand is after you have the surgery you can only eat very little...why then aren't these people affected like an anorexic? Do their metabolism's get messed up too? Or is the body tricked somehow since the stomach is smaller? Why is it "safe" for the gastric bypass people to eat such small amounts? I just find it weird....and kind of contradictory....

you wont be losing weight, you'll be losing muscle mass, regardless of the working out, you wont consume enough proteins, and energies to feed your muscles, resulting in losing muscle mass, which is bad.
Gastric Bypass surgery is a way to teach you how to eat like the body needs, i weighed 230 at age 18, and i could down 2 burgers, a fry, a shake, and icecream. due to my stomach being stretched out, but after changing my lifestyle in the eating department, my stomach can only handle small meals through-out the day.. it's pretty much just like Gastric Bypass surgery, small meals 4-6 times a day, to keep your stomach at the size it's suppose to be at. at first i bet their metabolism is shot completely, but after getting the hang of it, and feeding your body the right meals, it get's pumping strong, if you ever watched the Discovery Health Channel, and watched Obese at 16 ( a life in the balance ) or the 600lbs woman (jackies story) the nutritionist explain how and why the balance of food post-surgery is they key factor in the gastric bypass result, and through-out the documentary, they feed these people healthy food and they lost massive amounts of weight, in a healhty way.
Gastric Byspass Surgery can also restretch out if you don't watch what you eat.
the only meal through-out the day that should be 400-600 calories, is dinner.
breakfast and dinner is key to keeping your metabolism up, breakfast boosts it, and dinner is the last meal before 7-8 hours of sleep, resulting in boosted metabolism while resting.
sorry for the rambling =/

The gastric Bypass doesn't mess up the metabolism because the stomach is smaller and therefor fills up quicker. Once full, the checmicals that tell the brain you have had enough food are released. (Sorry I don't recall the name of this process).
You can simulate this same process by adding foods to your diet that are light in calories but expand and fill your stomach easily. For example: Add 3/4 cup of brown rice and a BIG glass of water to a light healthy meal.

burks I thougth that was helpful info. Never apologize for rambling. I try to make dinner my main course of calories too. So far today Ive had breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. Ive used 445 cals so far today so if I need something later on I will have something small before dinner. I always try to have 600 cals available for dinner.
starz you have posted in the past about being obsessed with your weight and you are only 14. Honey now is not the time to obsess with your weight, it will lead you down a dark and lonely road. have you thought about talking to a counselor at school or your parents? Stay healthy dear. EAT good foods- lots of fruits and veggies( will keep your skin healthy too) exercise or join a school sport. stay active and you will be fine. You are in the toughest years when it comes to your body and all the changes it is going thru. If you are overweight, talk to a dr and get their professional help. there are other teens out there that deal with the same issues. THere are teens on this site that would love to share and listen to you. Look up Alwayzfreetobeme, she is 17 and a great girl to listen to. We are all here to help you out but I would reccomend talking to your parents and a dr.
Well said, slappy.
starz....she's absolutely right. You're young and beautiful. Remember that weight does not make a person. It's what's in their heart.

Hey starz how's it going? I came upon this thread while looking for a different thread but figured I should reply.
First of all- can you lose weight by not eating and soley exercising? Absolutely. But do I recommend any one do that. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! that sounds anorexic- because it is! By not eating or eating very little. You will put your body into what is known as "starvation mode" and when your body does this it will store all the fat that is in your body, your metabolism will slow down to where it barely works. Your body will feed on your muscles and your organs. Once you get to the "weight you want" most people feel that that's not skinny enough and still continue this pattern, and if you do decide to eat again you will gain every ounce of weight that you lost, plus much much more. You will stop getting your period, risk giving up the ability to bear children. You risk losing your hair. Physical problems can include anemia, heart palpitations, bone loss, and tooth decay. Life-threatening problems include suicide, heart attacks, and kidney failure.
In short- don't do it. It's noooo good. and only breads more problems. Nothing is worth all that pain. It's quicker and easier and healthier to just follow this site
Good Luck and please take care

starz I don't know if you are still around anywhere but it sounds to me that you are developing obsession that could lead to an eating disorder, please if you havn't already don't take this path because you cannot get out. You do not want to develop anorexia, I have had an eating disorder since I was 7 and I am almost 19 now, it is living hell.
If you feel you do need to talk to someone who has been through and going through what you might have you can send me a message anytime all you need to do is ask for my email.
