My plans for the weekend?? ...to formulate a super clever plan to "Sock it to The Bank". *giggles* Long weekend?? What holiday is it?
Monday is Martin Luther King Day - Some people (like the federal government) get off.
I wonder what we have here in Canada? Canada is always copying US holidays and claiming them for their own... like Thanksgiving is a whole month earlier. I learnt this year that Canadians really don't understand what a huge holiday Thanksgiving is in the US and that it is ... or perhaps was, I really don't know... don't keep up with it, the busiest time of year for flying. *goes to look at the calendar*
Nope, no holiday here. But an example of Canadians "stealing" *cough, cough* *wink* US holidays is in May, Canada has Victoria Day a whole week before the US has Memorial Day. Then in July Canada has Canada Day a few days before the US has Independence Day.
Can't imagine the Canadians would have any day like this - Don't think minority rights was ever the issue in Canada that it was in the U.S., but I'll admit, I don't know very much Canadian History.
Canada Day is real, though.

From wiki:
"Canada Day celebrates the creation of the dominion of Canada through the British North America Act on July 1, 1867, uniting three British territories ? the Province of Canada, made up of Canada East and Canada West, and politically united since 1840 (southern Ontario and southern Quebec), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick ? into a federation, and creating the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. (See Canadian Confederation.)"
Yeah... I'm really not that sure about all of it. In August there is Civic Holiday... which is pretty big, but I have no idea what it is about. Canada Day, from my limited experience, is not as big as US 4th of July parties. I found out recently that Canada was still under control of the British until the late 1980's and that some Canadians still think that the Queen is in charge. =) Actually, is the Queen still alive?? (see, I've so been out of the loop on world news lately!)
Her Majesty is still alive, yes.
You're very resourceful today, HK... let's see, what else do I want to know about the world!! *wink* =)
Yup... nope, that's it. That was like already way too much thinking for this time of day!! =)
*quietly dumps his work at ix*

Yes, I agree. Too much thinking.

Time to go home! :D
Oh... I was thinking about times when I compared notes with my sweetheart regarding how history was taught to us in school. I mostly went to school in the US and he attended school here on the Island. I don't ever recall receiving information that Canadians burn down the White House, I believe in 1812... but he remember having a party in school when they were taught that part of history.
*quietly shuffles the work into a little nook and cranny* Work? What work?
Hooray! No work! *goes home*

Yeah, I don't think I was taught that either, but I caught it in a Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie song...
Good Morning all

:)
Hello Sheila.
I love 3 Dead Trolls in a Baggie. The System Administrator Song cracks me up. I also like the Arrogant Worms and CubeDwellers, Blue Screen and How come there is no Manual? (which reminds me so much of the frustrations of WinNT)
morning all
I am a huge Arrogant Worms fan as well, though I found "Beige" to be a somewhat.. lacking album.
Especially after "Toast"

Good morning, my little roadrunner ;D
How is everyone today?
