Do you know about underactive thyroid?
I would appreciate any help you might be able to give me.
Do you know anything about underactive thyroid?
Having changed medical practice I have an appointment with my new doctor
tonight.
I'm exploring the possibility that underactive thyroid could be the cause of my
depression and the possibility of misdiagnosis. A shot in the dark but I want to
get better. I have trawled the net and have several other symptoms that could
be attributed to a thyroid problem.
I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue in 2007
I had a thyroid (throat) scan in January I was told it was clear. I have been
told that scans show overactive thyroid only, do you know if this is true?
I have had blood tests last year and this year and have been told by my old GP
that my thyroid levels were `ok'.
Two friends last week seperately asked me if I had a thyroid problem.
I have looked at pictures of myself from 2005 and from 2007 can see a lump on my
lower neck on some but not all photos mainly those taken at night.
Do you know?
Is it possible to have a thyroid problem not shown in blood tests or scans?
Can I have a thyroid problem that does not present at all times?
I read on the net that people suffering from thyroid do not find their
depression medication effective and although I no longer take antidepressants
when I did my depression got worse. Do you anything about this?
Can you tell me anything else that could help me?
Thank you for reading this.
Have a great day
if you have an underactive thyroid, it isn't producing enough thyroid hormones and slows down your metabolism, leading to symptoms such as tiredness and weight gain.
but this would show up on a blood test or a scan.
the scan finds areas of the thyroid gland that are overactive and underactive.
kidney or liver disease, anemia, leukemia, diabetes, could also explain your symptoms.you can get a multichemistry blood test or panel and a complete blood count (CBC) to find out if you have any of these problems. but depending on the lab, these tests may run about $42 combined.
there is also wilson's thyroid syndrome. which has the exact symptoms of low thyroid. (fatigue, depression)but is caused by low temperature and doesn't show up on tests.you can click on this link for more information.

and i don't think it is possible to have a thyroid problem that isn't present at all times.
i hope i answered some of your questions. i hope you figure out what's causing all of this.
I have a lump on the front of my neck also and my thyroids have always come back ok, so I'm not sure why the lump occurs. =/
There is also nothing wrong with you seeking 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions. Chronic fatique syndrome is usually given when the symptoms you experience aren't linked to any specific medical issue.
I was also going to suggest anemia as that can have those symptoms also. And I agree with above, have a complete blood test done to make sure there isn't something hiding.
