Did you know...About Weightloss and Extra Pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Did you know that losing one pound will reduce 5 pounds of pressure off your spine? Start losing weight & you will reduce extra strain off your back!

Anyone else have any interesting "did you know" facts?

do you have a source for this?
I am a RN & first heard about it when talking to one of the surgeons I work with. Then I had to take a small class on ergonomics & it was on the exam.

Here is a spine clinic resource:

Did you know...

Every time you eat, your metabolic rate speeds up by 20-30% for the next two hours, but if you skip meals you miss out on this. Missing breakfast is the biggest problem - your metabolic rate slows by 5% overnight and stays at this rate until you next eat
DId you know that your foot is as long as you're elbow to your wrist?  It's true... This prostitute told me.
Did you know that 50% of people who begin a new exercise program quit within the first 6 months?

Here's to all of us at CC NOT being part of that statistic!!
LOL@ Kellywood23... "this prostitute told me" that made me laugh so hard!!
Wow! That is SO interesting... I guess that answer's my question about whether losing weight will decrease my lower back pain as a result of scoliosis!

Thanx!
Mmarcin - wow I did not know that metabolism speeds up that much from just eating - thats great!

I agree with pandajenn - its great that we can all help each other stay on track.  I for one know that I probably would not have kept on track as much as I have if I had not had the support from this site!
United2gether you are so right. I worked at a gym for 7 years. Everyone rushes in January to get a membership and ineveitably by February, we are back to normal. I've heard everything....

"I'll come in 6 days a week, 2 hours a day. Then I'll walk the dog. and on day 7, I'll take a yoga class" - like they even made it to 1 yoga class.

"I just want 1 month membership. I want to get fit and then I won't have to come back any more...right?" - yes sir, that's how it works, once you banish that spare tire you can go back to sitting on the couch and eating potatoe chips and it will never return.

What amazed me and made a deep impression was how, even with all the information out there, people still have think that achieving a healthy lifestyle is like flicking on a switch, first it's on and then it's off. It's something that you work at everyday.
