who knows that you count calories?
for me it's just the people in my household (mom, sisther, brother) and one of my closest friends. how about you guys?
Everyone... I am not ashamed. Everyone I know, knows that I had knee surgery last year, (kinda hard to hide that brace that goes from you hip to your ankle that I had to wear for 5 months) and they know that I gained about 10 pounds during that period. Kinda hard NOT to gain. They also know that I aim to be healthy and I am getting married in 8 months. So I want to lose 12 pounds, that is NOT a bad thing and they all support it, until we go out and I am eating healthy and it reminds them how unhealthy they are.... then I MIGHT get comments, but I think that usually they see me and want to do better themselves. I fall off the wagon occasionally, but that goes with counting.
I let Everyone know because i work at a vet clinic with an ALL WOMAN STAFF and lets just say there is alot of chocolate to go around, i figured it was safer to let them know so they can add their two cents if im about to cave. they also like the fruit i bring in as treats as a change from the sweets.
I have lost over 25 pounds at this point, so everyone has noticed. Since losing weight without trying is a sign of problems, I reassure everyone that I am working hard at losing. They always ask how I am doing it, but when I say exercise and eating less, that seems to end the curiosity. But if you are sucessful at losing, people are bound to notice.
My parents and my brother. I don't think it's anyone else's business.
P.S.
I love your username, katydid! I had to work with those during one of my labs last year, hehe.
I like to think that only my bf knows, because he's the only one I told... but I have a feeling that since I'm on this site 8 hours a day at work and surrounded by some... well Nosy Nellies isn't quite the word, but at least some Curious Kates, it's probably more people than that.
I was a little sheepish/embarrassed about it at first, but now that I've lost 13 pounds they can keep peeking :)
my mother, WHO TOLD MY GRANDMOTHER! probably there are people in space now who know that peggy's grand daughter tracks calories.
My boyfriend knows. My mother and a male friend know that I'm trying to lose weight but not specifically that I'm counting calories.
probably a lot of people. i feel pretty ridiculous for it because i am 103-105 pounds at 5'5" so it's not like i am fat and have to lose weight. but i just want to know how much i have eaten.
i feel ultra ridiculous when i go drinking and drink lite beer around my friends. people probably think 'why is she drinking lite beer? she's already really small. is she weight conscious?' and all that. but oh well. if i know i can afford an extra 200 calories i'll get a lite beer or make a couple bloody marys. i don't like to take up too many calories w/ alcohol anyway.
Just family/husband know.
Oh and my doctor... if that even counts. :P
One of my best friends ... and only so that she'll hopefully find the courage to start her weight loss journey.
Husband, daughter, doctor, other close family members and anyone who reads my facebook page. I'm not ashamed and try to promote this site to anyone who will listen. I've recommended it to friends (including 2 who are pregnant and struggling to gain weight) and family members. It's great that my step-daughter knows (she's 8). After dinner when I head for the computer she'll say, "going to log your food?" That way, if I wasn't going to do that, it keeps me accountable.
My boyfriend knows. I'm not sure anyone else knows that I still count. But in the past, tons of people knew and I didn't give a care :)
I try not to tell anyone, because I feel stupid ^^'
Everytime I read the label, someone ask me why do I do that, if I am anorexic, etc. Man, I just want to know how much food I ate or if it is healthy...
Maybe it's the fact that I'm 14, and not a lot of teenager count calories.
I've only told my brother, but I'm fairly certain other people know.
EVERYONE. lmao. I have been a calorie counter since about 2005 if not a little longer. It's just habit now. Kind of an obsession, but not to the unhealthy extent as it once was. Only to be healthy and in check now.
No one. My husband knows that I'm watching what I eat. The extent that I do? I really don't think he has any idea. He definitely doesn't realize that I factor in my 10 min walk to the subway into my calories for the day.
I try to make it clear to people that I count calories, I think it's one of the healthiest habits you can have when living in a land full of excess and abundance. It's not only a healthy habit, but a survival strategy along with avoiding unhealthy foods.
Counting calories and exercising should be the norm, it shouldn't allow people who do this to be labeled negative things like exercise person, aneroxic, or anything that would make them abnormal for engaging in healthy behaviors.
In America, there should be a legit class that teaches nutrition and dieting strategies, not just a standard home Economics class where the teacher is eighty-years-old and everyone makes an A for sewing a pillow and then sleeping on it.
One of my friends only knows that I keep some sort of track of my calories/what I eat, but she doesn't know the extent of it. She, on the other hand, is trying to lose weight by throwing up after she eats, so... She thinks that doing that is fine as long as it makes her lose weight. :\
My best friend knows I count calories daily, she keeps an eye on what she eats as well, and a couple of my other very good friends know I've had food/self esteem issues and from my random nutritional knowledge, have probably assumed. My mother has probably assumed since I know a lot about calories, weight loss, etc. My father and sister know I'm health conscious (and looking to lose a few), but I don't know if they're aware that I track my calories.
What is interesterified fat?
Interesterification is a food processing term. It is one of three techniques used to modify fats: hydrogenation (to make trans fat)... Read more
