Korean blood sausage
I just had some freshly made, still warm, Korean blood sausage that I bought at local market. It was delicious!
No idea how many calories it has. It's stuffed with some kind of noodles, and of course some blood. So I am guessing a lot. lol

You're right. It's glass noodles mixed with pig's blood and stuffed inside a sausage casing. I check this Korean dieting site and it says for 168g it's 235 calories.
The lady who was selling them was awesome. She started to cut some more fresh ones for me to eat there, after I bought some.
I brought some frozen ones I found to shower her, to make sure it was the same thing (she didn't speak English). Needless to say I put frozen ones back. Although I might pick them up, seems like a good breakfast food. The package on those said 140Cal for 170grams, but I think 235 is more accurate. *shrug

It's a street food here so I think the calorie content can vary a bit based on whoever makes and what ingredients they use. The frozen ones might have less of something in them. I've never seen frozen soon-dae here in Korea though so I couldn't compare it for you.
I LOVE street food. When I was in Thailand that is pretty much all I ate. It was awesome! Too bad none to be found here.
Yeah, America the land of frozen foods. If it exists it can be found conveniently packaged in a frozen/freeze section. lol
They also make fresh kimchi there on weekends. It tastes way different then jar one. More of a fishy taste. I guess the lady who makes it likes her fish sauce or something. lol

Blech. Jar kimchi is nasty. Fresh is the way to go... but I definitely don't like it when the ajjumas go crazy on the fish sauce either. My coworkers mom makes the most delicious, super spicy kimchi.
Delicious. I love black pudding and Korean blood sausage. Good iron content as a bonus!
I'm a fan of almost anything blood or offal related... If you're into those rich meaty flavours, you might also love haggis.

I love it spicy also! Funny story when I tried their freshly made one lady who was making it, made a comment to a customer while glancing at me. When they saw I noticed it she switched to English "Spicy? ah? Too spicy?"
Actually it wasn't spicy enough, just had way too much fish sauce. lol

I can't find haggis here. :( Although we have plenty of Asian and Indian ethnic stores, restaurants not so much for European ones. :(

I'm pretty sure haggis (imported from Scotland, that is) is banned in the US, so you'd have to find a butcher to make it fresh, or someone from Scotland to sneak in the canned kind.
I have tried canned haggis, and it wasn't bad - tasted like scrapple. But I'm not quite brave enough for blood sausage.
That's where I get my recipes for making Korean food. She's got a kimchi one up, too. You can add as much fish sauce as you like and make it as spicy as you like. It's a bit labor intensive though but it lasts a while.

Eek... I imagine tinned haggis would taste to real haggis like spam would to real sausage/ham - ie not very close!
Blood sausage is legal but haggis is not? Heh U.S. import laws make little sense. Anyway I found "local" place that suppose to sell them. Will give it a try when I fancy a 200 mile round trip on my motorcycle. :)

Yeah, blame the whole "mad cow" scare. Apparently Scotland was considering lobbying to end the ban, but I don't know whether that ever happened.
And meryl - I'm sure you're right, although I suspect the canned haggis was less intimidating to me than a real one would be :)

Are you vegetarian? If not, you eat cooked blood on a regular basis.
Yeah saying korean blood sausages sound really gross but it tastes friggin delicious. My brother loved that stuff so I would grab 2-4 pieces every time he bought it along with ddukboggi and ddukkochi and so on. hahahaa.
Just think of it really as noodle sausages... because even in normal sausages, blood is mixed with the meat and stuff. Really, try it out it tastes amazing.... which is bad because I'm trying to not eat pork anymore. :/ haha. I eat like pork maybe 4 times out of the year so that's not so bad, meh?
