Lack of self control.....
I LACK SELF CONTROL!! I SUCK!
Not only do I have to throw out all the easter candy cuz I cant stop myself from eating it... I can never go a whole week without binging at least 2 days of the week. The only time I exercise is soccer on wednesdays and 20 mins on the ellyptical 2 or 3 days a week. Other then that I'm mostly sedentary. I eat at least 1400 cals per day... and it is sooooo hard!!!!! I always want more!!
Is it like this for anyone else???? I've weighed the same every Monday for the last 4 weeks :(
Has anyone found the cure to this problem?!?! Please help!
Thanks in advance :)
Here's a list of good distractions when you're about to eat mindlessly:
-chew sugar free gum
-eat sugar free mints
-drink a calorie-free beverage (black coffee, tea, diet soda, crystal light, etc)
-chew ice or frozen calorie-free flavored ice cubes
-go for a walk
-log on to calorie count!
-call a friend for support
-exercise! It often suppresses one's appetite
thanks so much swimfan!!! im printing that out and posting it on the fridge!!!! i need all the help i can get :)
My advice would be eat a whole lot more fruits and veges. I like to snack A LOT, but these days I have apples instead of chips and so on. Eat enough fruits and veges anytime you feel like snacking and they will make you quite full without going over on calories. The first few days i did this i actually struggled a few times to get to 1200, which was a first for me. Also you get a lot of good nutrients from your snacks. Just remember to eat healthy meals as well!
cool ! thanks darcy! im adding that to my fridge sign :)
Stop beating yourself up---you do NOY SUCK! I don't know how tall you are but it sounds like you are close to your goal weight. You have posted in the past that you were trying to lose the weight you gained when you had a baby, so you have at least one child, maybe more. Therefore, you are NOT sedentary! (chasing after kids is hard work!) Without knowing your "stats" I can not be more accurate, however, I suspect that you are not eating enough and that causes you to binge. Use the tools on cc to recalculate your numbers. Maybe you have gone into starvation mode. If that is the case, up your calories to your maintenance level (1500-1700?) and start lifting weights. On lifting days eat even more! You will build muscle that will burn more calories. Your clothes will fit better. If you plan on eating more caloires every day (1500-1700) you will stop binging. (I don't agree with eating/drinking all of the diet items above~ don't like the chemicals~, but I DO agree with eating more fruits and vegies!)
Hey anoxa!
On your profile it says you are breastfeeding. If this is still the case, then you NEED to be eating more than 1400 calories! Breastfeeding burns over 500 calories a day, and it is recommended that breastfeeding women eat around 300-500 calories more than most if they are on a diet, so you could probably afford to crank up the calories to 1700-1900 - when my aunt was breastfeeding, she ate 2500 calories a day and still lost weight! Its so important that both you and the baby get the right nutrition, so you're body is most likely making you 'binge' because it knows you need the calories!
Analyse what you're craving, as well. If it's ice cream, it may be that you need more calcium. If its a pizza, then have a low cal cheese and tomato sandwich instead - just think about what you want, and maybe have a healthier alternative?
oops!! i stopped breastfeeding a few months ago.... i forgot to change that on calorie count.... my son is 19 months old now :)
carolann i really am sedentary! :( my house is so small that i dont really have to chase my son around :( and where i live its been really cold and i havnt been able to take him outside much. im hoping it will be warmer soon so i can take him on bike rides and walks...
i must not be eating enough... why else would i be hungry constantly :( i used the tools on cc and it said 1200 cals per day to get to my goal weight. ill up my cals to 1500-1700 and try lifting weights. thanks so much for your help :)
You do sound sedentary... but just walking up and down stairs or lifting your child up to hug them, change their diaper, get them in and out of a car... it all adds up! But, here is another idea to try... I teach yoga to parents w/toddlers. It is a great indoor activity and doesn't need much room. A 19-mon-old makes a pretty handy "weight" and he thinks you are playing with them... and you are. I also teach the parents how to massage their babies and get them to do things that help calm their children as well as helps them stay flexible and help their backs. Play "wrestling" with your child is fun too... "horsey", "airplane", 20-30 minutes a day helps keep you both in shape. Good luck!
Well im 28 years old and know exactly what you feel.
I was about 100 pounds over weight and lost 34 pounds in about 45 days.
Theres candy and everything around here and i wont touch it.
The way i got my will power was from having heart burn and my throat and swallowing was popping and didnt fill rite.
Reason i say this is dont wait untill your health makes you do it.I eat 1200 to 1500 hundred calories a day and im feeling better every single day and i lost 10 pounds last week.I should be eating 2000 calories day but i feel full with what i eat and i want results now not a pound a week.Im male by the way
Just think about your health and hopefully that will be enough but it never was for me untill i had to.Now its easy
If your still feeling hungry i sugest eating carrots or broccoli even though ive never ate the stuff i eat both every lunch and dinner since there so low in calories and it helps fill you up on less calories.

Hmm, Res0kkw, I can't imagine that a male can eat 1200-1500 calories a day and be "healthy". As you said, you should be eating more like 2000. You have a lot to lose and it will come off faster than someone who is close to their ideal weight... but 10 pounds in a week?! You may want to re-think what you are doing so you don't end up in the hospital.
Why would i end up in the hospital?
Im eating 3 meals a day.
I even told my doctor what i was eating and he seemed fine with it.
I have plenty of energy and feel good.
Seems like im getting better every day.
1200 for a grown man is NEVER going to be enough, especially if you're overweight. Unless you're on a program guided by a very good nutritionist, you're going to miss out on key vitamins, not to mention that although you're losing the weight thick and fast now, it will slow down very quickly after you've lost another 10-15lbs, not to mention that there are all sorts of health issues associated with losing the weight that fast.
A diet shouldn't just be about losing weight. It should be preparing for a healthier future, eating the right things, and above all staying healthy. Whilst you may feel OK now, a deficit that big could damage your organs, as they cannot work in their normal manner on a large deficit such as that - how are they supposed to tick over when they're getting no energy? Think about it like a laptop - if you don't charge the battery efficiently, and keep only giving it little bursts of power, eventually the battery will wear down until it can only remained charged for 30-40 minutes at a time. Organs are the same - their efficiency and health can be damaged if their 'energy' is restricted.
Please, at least consider upping it to at least 1700.
(oh, and anoxa, sorry I accused you of eating too little. I saw the words 'breast feeding' and '1400 calories' and alarm bells started ringing!! Good luck with your diet!)

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
