> Calories:  1,600 - 1,800 following food pyramid guidelines. *** If I go over because of a special meal, I know it is okay. In otherwords, calories aren't set in stone and vary day to day.

> Foods:  Whole grain breads, fruit, vegatables, lowfat cheese, yogurts, granolas, lean meat, ice cream (pretty much everything in moderate amounts).  I do not drink any soda (just water), baked chips vs. whole bag fulls of regular chips, almost no butter.Soda, chips and butter were my downfall.

> Frequency of workouts: At least 30 minutes 5 days a week.  I also take into account anything I do above and beyond what I do in a usual day.

> Exercise:  Weights (dumbells), alternating days.  Toning exercise in between (pilates).  Walking. Treadmill. Swimming. With the excepton of weights, I rarely repeat the same exercise.

Been doing this since March and so far so good.  The Food Pyramid was my saving grace.

edit to say, I do eat frequent "snacks" throught the day in addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This is an example:

5  ounces whole grains

--> tips

2  cups vegatables

tips

1.5 cups fruits

tips

3  cups milk

tips

5 ounces meat/beans

tips

1 Make Half Your Grains Whole

Aim for at least  3 ounces of whole grains a day

2 Vary Your Veggies

Aim for this much every week:

Dark Green Vegetables = document.write(CalculateDarkGreenVeg); 2 document.write(CalculateDarkGreenVegTxt); cups weekly
Orange Vegetables = document.write(CalculateOrangeVeg); 1 1/2 document.write(CalculateOrangeVegTxt); cups weekly
Dry Beans & Peas = document.write(CalculateBeansVeg); 2 1/2 document.write(CalculateBeansVegTxt); cups weekly
Starchy Vegetables = document.write(CalculateStarchyVeg); 2 1/2 document.write(CalculateStarchyVegTxt); cups weekly
Other Vegetables = document.write(CalculateOtherVeg); 5 1/2 document.write(CalculateOtherVegTxt); cups weekly

Oils & Discretionary Calories

Aim for  5 teaspoons of oils a day

Limit your extras (extra fats & sugars) to 130 Calories

I remember you telling me about this before.

deffinately seems like a good idea, and sounds pretty similar to my diet now... except i drink soy milk, but minus the bread (i still have a slight fear of carbs, its getting better though, i will now eat oatmeal and whole wheat bread! ...sometimes lol)

I think I just need to start working out regularly so that I can eat more

thanks.

Maintenance Stats: 5'1.5, 21 yrs old, 105 pounds

Calories: Roughly 1300-1400 a day, but I don't log them anymore. I logged for a few months to get to feel for what I could eat, and then stopped because it was stressing my out. I have several cheat days a week, but I also have several healthy days a week, so it balances out.

Foods: My favorite website for breakfasts right now: http://amysmithr.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_arch ive.html. These recipes are FANTASTIC and helped me lose the last 5 pounds. For lunch I tend to eat frozen dinners (watch the salt) and left overs from dinner the night before, always with a huge serving of vegetables (usually caesar or tossed veggies with some kind of calorie-wise dressing). Supper is usually some kind of chicken breast, pork chop, lean burger with a huge helping of vegetables. The key for me is to eat more veggies than meat and keep the meat portion relatively small. If I absolutely have to snack during the day I try to stick to fruits or low-cal yogurt.

Frequency of workouts: walk to work and back everyday, do cardio 3-4 times a week outside that.

Exercise: I do a 5 km jog/walk every other day. If you go to the fitness forums, there's a thread on learning how to run. That's where I got the idea from, and it seems to be working great! I feel skinnier, as silly as it sounds, every time I get back.

I originally wanted to get down to 105 lbs, and now that I'm there I'm very happy. I still have a bit of a pudgy stomach, so I'm going to keep up what I've been doing and with any luck it will go away. I'm hopeful since I've been able to get this far. :) Good luck!

115lbs

1500 - 1700 - more on a day I do Cardio.

Sounds like I am a little bigger than most at 5'2'', but am happy to be maintaining at 115. I don't want to be any smaller - I have a great hour glass shape and want to keep it.

okay, let me refraise a bit:

how many calories did you eat and excersise that you did to get down to your weight?

I would idealy like to be in the 98-102ish range, but I am so confused how to get there and maintain that. You all keep contridicting eachothers posts, like one girl is 100lbs and eats 1600-1800cal while another is 115lbs and eats 1500-1700cal.

I haven't weighed myself accurately in forever but my guess is somewhere between 104-108lbs right now... its a decent weight. PROBLEM is that I have been eating about 1300-1400cal throughout recovery and have gone from 87lbs to this current weight doing so and I fear I am still going to keep gaining.

Two years ago I went from 117lbs to 104lbs on a 1200cal diet and maintained it, but couldnt lose anymore, my weight plateaued there... even with lots of excersise.

I don't know what to do. I don't know what, or how much to eat. I want this to stop I want to maintain...

My highest was 117lbs and this was too much on my small frame (I was told my body fat percentage was too high, and I looked kinda chunky) But I fear this is where I will end up in a couple months unless I do something about it.... I can't keep gaining on such few calories Cry

please. help :(

if you read my profile you will notice the stats. 1,500 to 1,200 calories and daily exercise to lose weight.

okay then, you see that everyone is different in what their own bodies can and cannot do and the levels of activity.  metabolism.  i was amiss when i saw such few calories and some serious activity (i even posted). what works for one may not work for another.

i think and it is my own opinion, that you need to feel good first.  when you feel good, you will have the energy to exercise.   yes, you need to exercise as a part of being healthy.  eat right, eat well and exercise

if you are going to yell at me for expressing an opinion, oh well...you did ask a rephrased question with some background on body fat and i added an opinion. i did read that you were exercising, but i have no idea how often or to what intensity.

i have no idea what you are going through, no idea.  i have never been in your "shoes" and been through what you have.  i can only say that you eat right, feed yourself well and exercise = respect yourself and your body.

I hate to say this, but you are going to have to trust yourself and stop trying to do what others do; as you see what works for one doesn't work for another.  Stop focusing on numbers and refocus on how you feel .

thank you for the reply, but i'm sorry it's not really what I wanted to hear.

focusing on how I feel right now? I feel like &%$#. I am miserable. I am depressed. I am crying all the time now. I have suicidal thoughts. I haven't felt this bad in a long time (think back to the days where everyone hated me in middleschool) I feel hopeless... If I am gaining on a 'diet' amount of calories, what do I do, where do I go from here? Increase and risk more gain. Decrease and fall back into the ED.

It's getting to be summer, and my shorts that fit me in Mexico 3 months ago are now almost too small... my thighs have increased in size in such a short amount of time on too few calories... it doesn't make sense Cry

I just need someone to help guide me...

most recovery patients start off with like 2000cal-3000cal diets to gain weight, but I was never put in this kind of treatment so I just ate around 1200cal because this was the 'bare minimum' for a woman... but yet it made me gain about 15lbs in a year.

what do i do?

I don't know how much help I can be, but here's what I've been through:

From 18-26 I was normal to somewhat overweight: 115-150 at 5'2.

Then I started running, cutting out meat from my diet, and drinking *a little* less. I started to watch what I ate.

From about 26-30 I lost quite a bit of weight and have been about 105-110 for a solid two or three years (I am now 32). I did this by joining cc,  running a lot, and (I guess) just getting older. I also am careful about what I eat (still no meat, occasional fish, lots of fruits, veggies, low-fat dairy, nuts, and whole grains, etc.).

I eat about 1800-2500 cals a day, depending on how much I've been running. I weigh (as I said) 105-110, usually 107-108. If I get to 110, I restrict a bit. If I get down to 105, I eat more (my bf thinks I'm too skinny at 105 and I sometimes agree).

I'm now 5'3.5. (I don't know what happened between 26 and 30 but I swear yoga and running stretched me out! Or maybe I gained confidence and started to stand up straighter? :) ) And I run about 15-35 miles a week, and run a marathon once every year. When I'm being good, I also do yoga and lift weights, but that's more rare than not.

I don't know if any of this helps, but I thought I might say that age does matter. My body has changed a lot through the years, my metabolism has finally stabilized, and if you stay active and healthy it WILL show...eventually. I'm sorry you're so frustrated now. Maybe just eating well--eating healthy, non-empty foods, and setting fitness goals INDEPENDENT of a number on a scale--will help...?

I NEED SOME HELP!!!

2 month ago I was 110 pounds 38 years old and 5.15.  I decided to keep my 110 and from 1200 calories i am taking 1400 - 1500 daily to keep it.  Well surprise I gained 5 pounds since I am eating more to keep my 110.  Does any body knows what is happening to me?
Okay then. I can see that all this has spriralled out of hand.I feel the need to make statements.

My own life is not perfect.  I have my own set of problems; problems everyone has, just maybe different.  They are problems nonetheless.   It is how a person choses to deal with their problems that makes the difference.  I used to take my problems and eat them away.  Now, if I am angered or bothered, a good workout helps me burn away the anger and look at the probelm(s) in a clear perspective and then deal with it.

My body is not perfect.  When I was "fat" I was a whale !!!  How would you feel being told by the very same people you love totally and completely, without any condition (unconditional love) that 'you look like an oompaloopah' or 'your belly is as big as your boobs' or the best 'you look pregnant'.  NOW, with the amount of weight I lost, yes, I have loose skin and it is "nasty" to me.   However, I am not a model/performer or entertainer, so, I do not get paid to look perfect like the model/performer or entertainer.   I am also 38 years old and have had two children.  I am who I am.  I accept me flaws and all.  Call me an imperfect mess.  I am okay with it all.  In the grand scheme of life, I am actually okay.  I love me for who I am.

As for calories, what the heck is going on ????? Only my opinion: Once you lost all the weight you wanted (or even gained) stop counting.  You are no longer looking to acheive a calorie goal - one that restricts calories for many.  I fell straight into the lap of meeting goals in not going over alloted calories !!!  That's how I lost so much weight.  Gosh, just continue to eat right and exercise !!!!  That is how the food pyramid helped me, personally.  You all can choose to do whatever you think is right.

As for the calories you all posted, I have to believe one of two things are happening - you over estimating or even underestimating while logging.  If you are eating all the food groups you have met your calorie goals - in my opinion.

When you enter maintaining weight you still have to eat right and exercise !!!  You can't do one or the other and expect everything to just magically fall into place.

I expect a good bashing on this post.  I don't care anymore.  The only person I need to care about at this time is myself.  Quite frankly, these forums are really bringing me down.  I refuse to feel upset because I found something that has worked for me, so far.

Mentally you need to have a stabilty; that stability comes from your physical well being.  Be well.

5'2.5", 102-103 pounds

-i aim for 1300 calories

-i eat mostly healthy foods: lots of fruits, vegetables, tofu, grains, oats, i'm also a vegetarian.

-i haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks, going on three due to my schedule and with exams and everything.  usually i'll try to go at least once a week, somtimes more if i'm lucky.  i usually work out for an hour to an hour and a half.

-i like spinning class, the cardio machines, i also do the weight machine

look carmenxox i tootaly understand you, in fact you and i have exactly the same measures, my higest too was 117 and i looked a little fat considering my height. now i'm down to 100 lbs and believe it or not tootally hate it!!

i mean of course i like being thin, my face has slim down and i don't have the enormous cheeks i used to, but i've also lost all my curves and realized after many many comments that women are more attractive when they've at least some body mass, or feel like they have it if you know what i mean...

so well here's my advice, from where i see it your body refuses to get lower than 104, THANK him, don't try to fight what nature thinks it's right, eat 1600 -1800 calories and do excersise 3 to 4 times a week and you'll be fine, don't focus your life in food because  years will pass you by and you won't even enjoy them. The most important thing here is for you to be happy (at least that's my goal in life) and having a nice body obviously forms a part of it but it doesn't completes it. Spending all day long thinking about food will obsese you and one day you'll notice you aren't even happy and that being thin instead of getting you closer to the whole idea of happiness has driven you out of it.

i know it's hard but you look pretty dammn good in your photo and you should learn to feel it by yourself ...

try this for a long while and see how it goes, if you gain weight (wich i sincerely doubt ) you'll eventually see that it will stop (maybe at 108 pounds or so) but you'll never return to your originall 117 not in a million years by eating this , so don't worry that much, smile and try on different activities that fill you.. be happy!!

=) =) =)

ps i hope my english is understandable haha

i know the topic very well. have u ever cinsider u have a problem stilll. your very thin. come on

im 5' 1" and 96 lbs

for maintainence, i try to eat about 1600, depending on activity

i run about 2 miles 4ish times a week (guess that comes out to 20 mins) plus try to go on walks often

eating healthy is important to me- whole grains, fruits, veggies, and good fats like from peanut butter, olive oil.

i also recovered (mostly) from an ed, and i went from eating 1200 a day to nearly 2000 overnight. i think it is good to shock your system like that, because i actually continued to lose weight for a while. try for just a week or two to eat a good amount of calories (maybe 2000 if youre comfortable) and see if you keep gaining. make sure to get some exersize in too, even if youre trying to gain it keeps bloating down, ive found.

hope youre okay! good luck.

5'2''

I don't really count my calories but generally I eat around 1200-2000 calories a day

I eat lean meats & vegetables only [I will be replying to your message when I have a bit more free time]

I work out for 96 - 110 minutes a day depending on how early in the morning it is and whether or not I have to get ready to go to work

I use the elliptical trainer, row machine &/or treadmill [On an incline of 10% or higher @ 3.6 or higher = usually 4]
