Goodlife Fitness $49.00 / month

(co-ed)

I go the YMCA but it's co-ed  -I like it b/c there are SO many things to do such as the gym, raqutball, swimming, sauna, aerobics classes etc.

We pay about 50.00 a month for our entire family of  6.

GOOD LUCK

I used to go to Curves and it was ~$50/month, plus a one-time $100 initiation fee.

I go to a gym called Transformations. It is awesome, lots of classes plus the normal gym weight and aerobic machines. There are several fee schedules, I paid $75 registration then $45 per month.

Good Luck!

I went to the Y for a while, and then I tried New Lady Fitness.  The Y was okay, but they were always so busy that I could never get the machines I wanted.  New Lady Fitness was actually pretty good, for a gym.  There were plenty of machines, I got a free fitness trainer consultation once a month, and there was a nice varied schedule of classes.  I got tired of the repetitive nature of gym workouts, so I decided to not do the gym thing anymore.  I got into NLF on a promotional deal where they waived the membership fee, and it was $35/month for 2 years.

My only complaint with NLF is that when I let my membership run and tried to cancel, it was exceedlingly difficult.  I had to express my desire to cancel my membership in writing (no, I couldn't just let the dues expire and say verbally - I wish to not continue my membership), and when they accidentally charged me, it took 2 months to get them to stop sending me a freakin' bill every week.

Be careful with fitness clubs - they're very practiced in the hard sell and preventing escape.

Be careful about initiation fees. Often if you show some resistance you can get them waived (I worked at a fitness club some years ago) - or keep your eyes open for flyers or ads because they often have specials that waive such costs and you won't have to put up a fight.

Currently I belong to a Women's Only GoodLife Fitness Club (Canada) and the membership gives you access to ALL their clubs which is nice if you are on the road or want to attend fitness classes at various clubs (including co-ed) in your area.  I pay $27.83 biweekly (taxes and everything included) and paid nothing (no initiation, first, last payments, card fees or processing fees) to get started. (Joined Sept 2007)

I attend at least 4 times each week and love the more "laid back" atmosphere at the Women's only. Less of a fashion show. Less "look at me" attitudes. Less intimidating.

Don't forget to look into corporate discounts too! Sometimes if a large number of employees attend the same gym, the gym will offer a discount - but usually only if you ask! And do be careful of the fine print. They are all a sales business and they follow *their* rules!

I go to Curves it is only $100 for 4 months - college student price  it is higher of course without that discount.  If you go 4xweek it ends up being really cost effective.  I love it because it is mostly older ladies, so I don't feel like I am competing with young thin women.  It is only 30 minutes and I know I get all the cardio and weight training for the day no question.

Thanks to all you ladies...I done have a question though.  I know alot of you said that you use Curves...when you go, can you just go in and work out, or is it like a "class" and all the ladies are working together...?

I go to Lucille Roberts. I paid $299 for 18 months. They always have specials going on though--- right now if you sign up with a friend it's $13 a month with a 2 year commitment. The start up fee ranges depending on what special they're promoting...mine was $5, but it can be as much as $40.

www.lucilleroberts.com always has what special they're running

Edit: Sorry I just realized they're only in NY, NJ and Pennsylvania, but it's still good to compare and might be helpful for someone else. Good luck!
