Hey! I am on that boat right with you.  When mine comes around I can't move until there are at least 800 mg of Ibuprofen coarsing through my veins...also chocolate and red wine call out to me seductivley from the pantry.

Here's what I do: I am completely allowed to not work out on the first/worst day of my period.  I can watch TV, read, loaf around, whatever.  No feeling bad; this is my day to do whatever I want. As far as food cravings go, pick one or two things that satisfy your craving.  My personal favs are those cupcakes with the white squiggles on top.  I let myself eat one package.  That's it.  A nice glass of milk.  If I'm dying I'll let myself have one more little treat like a piece of dark chocolate or something.

The main thing that helps me keep on track is allowing myself treats and rest, but only limited.  I dont slack for the whole seven days, I don't stuff myself with nasty processed foods.  I indulge for a day and then hop back on the wagon the next day with no regrets.

Good luck!

I'm so glad someone else asked this question. I'm in hell this week. I've used my misery as an excuse to overindulge in ice cream. (My absolute weakness.)

Today is day 3, and I've been good so far, and I'm determined to be good for the rest of the day, and tomorrow and the rest of the week really. (The fact that I'm poor will help a little bit - I won't be spending money on any junk.) I have lost all sense of motivation though.

My boyfriend didn't help the situation at all. I tried to implement an "eat out only once per week" rule, but all weekend he REFUSED to go food shopping, and instead would rather pay for us to eat out. I should have just done the food shopping myself, but I let myself be swayed. I need to learn how to say no. Not just to eating out, but to my ice cream cravings, and my anti-gym sentiments as well.

Somebody, help! Knock some sense into me. :(

Hey ladies....I try to just drink WATER....eventhough we put on water weight, we'll feel better in the end....I try to allow myself one or two treats as our bodies tell us we need something to satisfy our hormones. I usually don't like to eat while I'm on my period, b/c I feel sick as a dog, but I have too. So, portion control is key, even if you indulge on the bad foods. One week isn't going to kill you if you go that long....my worst days are usually day 2 and possibly day 3. But REMEMBER: working out while on your period is the  BEST thing for you and your body!! It will help those nasty PMS hormones. Good luck ladies....I'm drinknig water and watching what I eat too...it sucks, but in the end it's all worth it!!

Thanks for the tips shannonmaris. I was just reading that I should be drinking 78 ounces of water, per day. I have been terrible today. I started off the day with my coffee and only drank about a quarter of that (as per usual.) And haven't sipped anything since! I'm going to fill an 8 ounce paper cup from the water cooler right now and I'm going to do that 4 more times before I leave the office at 5 pm today. :) Don't bother wishing me luck, I won't need it. Ha. I'm determined to stick to today's goals.

Thanks again!

Hi route507,

Well the fact that you are here on cc and reaching out shows a committment and determination to strive to meet a goal.

I have a suggestion with eating out: Ruby tuesday's has a great salad bar and a nice salmon dish where you can get the sauce on the side and only veggies with it - same with Olive Garden. OG has a menu you can ask for that lists the calories of their healthy menu items and such. They have a nice chicken dish for ~360 cal. If a cc member's calcs were correct we can have a Chipotle burrito bowl with chees 110, blk bean 130, chicken carnitas orsteak for ~225, tomato 25, lettuce 5, corn 100 = ~600c. Rice is a bad choice 240, guac is 170

WEll those are the chains I can think of that might be nationwide. Hope that helps and the calcs are correct. Cat

Thanks for the tips Cat. I'm not sure where the Ruby Tuesday's is around here - but we have an olive garden fairly close. Of course, if I go to olive garden I want to eat everything but the healthy stuff.

The places that we frequent aren't typically the places where there are tons of healthy options...I just need to work on portion control when I do allow us to go to these places. There's absolutely NO need to eat the entire quesadilla - especially when it is literally hanging OFF of the plate. There's just no need for that.

I've got to focus on paying more attention to my body and eating only when I'm hungry. I also learned (that college nutrition class WAS useful for something!) that it takes your stomach approximately 20 minutes to send the signal to your brain that it's full...this means that for those of us out there who INHALE our food, we're often overstuffed by the time we even notice any signals our body is giving us. Eating slower and focusing more on how one feels is key to being successful.

And...I just drank my first 8 oz of water in the kitchen, before I even came back to my desk. I filled the same cup again and I'm starting it right now. Go me. :)

Second 8 oz cup down. Three to go before 5 pm. :)

I'll grab another cup at 2:30 and then again at 4. I'm glad there's been some responses on this post. You ladies are keeping me totally in the zone today. Thanks!

I wonder how skinnedream is doing...maybe she'll return with some good news for us.

I have been drinking water all day....mainly b/c I feel guilty for two cups of coffee....ouch....why does Creamer have to be so bad.....it's so good!! It's my main weakness right now. But, the water is keeping me hydrated. In a little bit I'm going for my walk. It's HOT outside, so I should sweat alot!!

Haha, I often wonder about creamer too. Why is it so hard to give up too? I've almost always preferred milk to creamer (I guess I'm sort of lucky that way) but my mother absolutely refuses to let go of creamer when she orders out at Dunks or McDonald's. She's done a great job of forgetting the sugar, and switching to fat free half & half when at home, but it's those fast food coffees that kill her.

Great job on the water and the walking. :) Do you walk every day? How far or long do you usually walk for?

I should start implementing a daily walk. I tried once before and was able to get up early and walk the family dog in the mornings for about a week. I just love my sleep though...so I quickly gave up on that. Perhaps I should try and pick it up again. It was very helpful in getting me to work on time on a consistent basis.

I don't really like the taste of coffee, so the creamer is the part I love!! I love coffee for the caffeine. I should just give it up altogether and learn to deal with the tiredness. Although, I am told by my husband that it only takes a couple weeks to get over the caffeine addiction and the headaches go away, and then you feel fabulous. Who knows, we'll see!

I walk everyday!! If I'm walking as part of my work out, I walk for usually about 45 minutes, if it's just casually with the family we walk for about half an hour, maybe an hour just at a moderate pace. I'm working on running. I haven't gotten it down just yet, but I'm working on it.

I got sick a couple of months ago with a kidney infection...my first one ever...I got it from traveling and moving overseas...and while I was in the hospital for about a week, all i was allowed to drink was water. Some days it was all I got b/c I had to get ultrasounds done. So, I learned to drink water all the time. It became my best friend and I learned to really like it. I realized just how dehydrated I had gotten. But, I did lose weight and I did feel great!!! If you ever wanna talk more, just email me!!
