Ladies who have lost weight .... do your high heels (shoes) fit differently?
I know on some days my hands and feet swell if I have too much sodium, but generally speaking - my high heels I wear at work keep slipping off my feet. I look like a fool when I walk.
Quite embarrassing, especially when a male co-worker asks if you are limping.
This actually just happened to me and I had to quickly fumble to change the subject - I really don't think he would care/want to know that my shoes are falling off because my feet aren't as pudgy.
So I was curious to see if anyone else noticed this. And if so, what do you do to make the shoes fit tighter? Has anyone ever tried the Dr. Scholl's inserts?
Hey this is happening to me too!
I've put insert liners in the ones that are closed to take up the slack, open toes are looking for donation locals.
Ah, so I am not alone!
Shoes are so darn expensive and I rarely find ones that don't give me blisters, so you can only imagine how much money I put out before I get that "perfect" pair.
Insert liners? Are they the thick gel type ones?
And good call on donating the others that you can't fix! The next weekend I am not traveling, I plan on taking everything out of my closet (there is a ton of stuff, including jeans from when I was skinny and jeans/clothes from when I was much heavier) and going through it all - with the goal of donating what is still good.
through my weight loss i have noticed I went from a 9 to an 8.5... I'm hoping that I can get in an 8 once all of the weight is off... however I have long toes and I don't think that will happen. 8.5 seams likes the most popular size and they never have anything good on the clearance rack. I'm crossing my fingers for size 8!!!
Oh... and try endless.com for shoes... FREE overnight shipping. Just remember to view the shoes priced lowest to highest price (some can be $$$).
The other place I find bargains is DSW.
Tell me about it! I am a size 8.5 too---- though sometimes I can fit in a size 8/7.5 depending on the shoe. And I agree - all the good shoes run out of our sizes first!
Thanks for the tip on the site! Free overnight shipping - sweet! I like DSW too... but typically only get their shoes on sale.
I am a fan of rumaging through the Macy's sale racks. I actually just got an awesome 200$ pair of high heeled knee-high brown leather boots for 30$ - and in size 8.5!!!
AND - they even fit my fat calves and I can even tuck my jeans into them - definitely a first for me! I am so excited to wear them this Friday.
Do you have a TJMaxx by you? Sometimes I go there (that is actually where I get most of my work heels - Nine West brand too!).

I use a Dr Scholls (sp?) product that is not a gel it's light blue memory foam, like tempurpedic for your feet.
I'll have to check out foot petals, thanks beena!
Awesome site beena!! I love how they come in different colors to best match the style of the shoe. Definitely a girly touch! ![]()
Bagga - before you get rid of your open-toed shoes, see if Beena's site has any that might work for you. I will look for the Dr. Scholls pads them next time I am out shopping - thanks!
Yup! When I was at my heaviest, a pair of high heels I have just didn't fit me. Now? Perfect.
Also, a pair that fit perfect are a little loose now, and slip a bit :)
I think it's just when you get to your goal, it's time to re-vamp your wardrobe! :)
Personally I find it really hard to walk on the gel inserts. Your feet mush around in your shoes, there's too much give, and it's like walking on the beach (if sand were gelatinous) or a mini water bed. Try foam ones instead. I also like Foot Petals for my sexy strappy shoes.
I went up from a 7, 7 1/2 to 7 1/2, 8 when I gained a lot of weight. I'm looking forward to going back down as I lose so I can fit back into some of my cuter shoes!
Since losing roughly 50 lbs, my feet did get a bit smaller. Not too much, because they are naturally (...yay...) wide. But just the other day I put on this pair of shoes (not heels) that I had bought just a little on the big side, and they were flapping around like flip flops. I also have this nice pair of the perfect for everything black ankle boots...and the foot part still fits okay. But the ankle is so loose I feel like I'm playing dress up. So yep, along with the rest of my wardrobe, the shoe collection is pared down quite a bit, and I'm just starting to rebuild it again. I'm still losing about another 10 lbs, so I have to keep holding back because I can't afford to keep doing this!
Not a lady, but... I have lost just over 200 pounds and I do know that at my heaviest, my feet were EEE in width and now I can wear Nike's, which are notorious for being narrow widths. I also know that even though I still take a diuretic 2 times a day for hypertension, my weight can fluctuate 10 pounds overnight. I have a lot of varicose veins in my legs due to the weight compounded with genetics and my feet will still swell even with the meds and drinking plenty of water and not adding salt to stuff. I am lucky as being male, most of my shoes are laced. I would try to find some nicer lace-up boot type heals for those odd days while you are in transition.
Wow, I am totally shocked to see all the responses!
Glad there are a bunch of us who get to celebrate our weight loss by not only buying those new pair of jeans we have been watching for the past few months - but now we get to go shoe shopping too! Yipeee! And just in time for the summer styles.
I am trying to salvage the shoes that I do have though, so I will try out a few different types of shoe inserts until I find the pair that works the best. Thanks for the heads up on the gel ones jds17!
The skin on my feet is super sensitive and I always manage to get blisters - so I have, oh maybe 10 pairs of shoes that give me blisters but I still keep - mostly because I spent a little too much money on them and I can "get away" with wearing them in social settings where walking is down to a minimum. (Or where I have a big enough bag that I can stash them away and wear flip flips until I need to appear more "polished" and professional.)
In retrospect, I should have made this topic open to everyone - so thanks for your response mark_in_albuquerque! It must be frustrating to have a fluctuation so drastically within a day's span!
Trust me, if they had nice lace up heeled shoes, I would wear them. All my work pants are tailored to a certain length to match the heels I typically wear with them. Oh the joys of having short legs. ![]()
Great idea roylucie92! Pregnancy is not in my near or distant future plans either - but it would be nice to have a few pairs of reliable and oh-so-cute shoes to wear (and think of the cost savings too)!
My problem right now - living at home with my parents after living on my own at college (not to mention having awesome closet space in all my apartments at college), having 20+ pairs of shoes and a wardrobe that clothes me in all my weight ranges ....
I don't like to give things away in fear that I will gain weight again, but with purchasing new clothes to fit the new me, I really have pushed the limits on how much I can fit in my closet.
I always tell myself it is good to give to others who need the items immediately instead of me keeping them in my closet for the IF/WHEN battle I have with myself regarding my weight fluctuations.
