sometimes i can be up by 2lbs - really annoying, but then the following week is always a pleasant surprise :-)
I never really noticed much difference around that time, but I guess I never really paid attention. From what I understand though, it can be from nothing to 5 pounds. They make pills that are supposed to relieve the bloating associated with menstruation, but I have never tried them.
Anywhere from 2-3 lbs. If I am eating lots of salty stuff and not drinking enough water, I can balloon up to 4-5 lbs, which makes me feel very very bloated.
I noticed that this was more pronounced ever since I started using the Pill.
I used to gain upwards of 8-10 lbs before I started eating healthy. Now if I don't give in to the cravings and the urge to eat the house, I only gain about 1 lb.
I gained 5lbs. It really annoyed me. It all came right back off as I got closer to the end though.
I'm one of those "lucky" girls that (I swear) goes up and down 5 lbs around that time, and I'm NOT on the pill. And I don't eat salty stuff. I agree with the other post that said that the week after is always great, but the run-up to and the actual week my "aunt flo" is in town - its a miracle I haven't busted uot of my pants at some point!
its really annoying. If anyone has hot tips on how to avoid the fluctuation altogether, I'm all ears!!![]()
I don't appear to gain weight at that time. If I am trying to lose, I lose as usual. If I am maintaining, I don't put anything additional on.
I usually don't lose weight at all the week before/of my period and get really upset and depressed (um, probably the hormones don't help with this either) then after my period is OVER I get a big old drop. Happy times. I am due any day now and all I want to do is eat. I'm being really good but I'm not expecting a loss on my Friday morning weigh in...sigh.
I usually don't notice, but now that I am trying to lose weight..I've been starting to get on the scales regularly.
I get about 5 lbs this time, and now that my period is over.I have only lost half of what I've gained..geez..I am wondering when the other half will drop..or NEVER? It's really frustrating and disappointing to see how much hardwork and effort you put into exercising and calories counting and STILL gain weight that can never be shedded off..
some months are always better than others.... some months i will not have any bloat, no water weight and no fluctiations....
other months.... none of my clothes will fit.... my belly will look impregnated about five months and i will swell with anywhere from 5-10lbs of water weight....
the key.... resisting cravings for pizza and chocolate!!!
2-3 pounds.
When I was still losing I was the same as etahbear:
"I usually don't lose weight at all the week before/of my period ... then after my period is OVER I get a big old drop."
Thank God I found this thread going on, it's just about that time and I got on the scale this morning and was infuriated. I know it's just water, the rational part of me is aware of it but the emotional part of me went bonkers when I saw the number. So far it's about 3lbs, no big deal but you all know as well as I do how hard it is to get rid of 3 stinkin pounds
For 2 days in mid cycle I balloon up by 3+ pounds and 2 days of period +5. But within a day or two all of that is gone and I lose an extra pound or two.
I recently tried drinking more water and it really eased the bloating for me. It's weird, but more water means less water retention. I think it's because your body just flushes it out instead of hoarding it.
Taking Pamprin or some such which says they ease bloating has a downside. They put in a diuretic in the meds which makes you go more often, but then it also means you get dehydrated faster. (kinda like drinking anything with caffeine)
Better off just drinking more water.
for me its up 4 to 5 pounds tops! but I heard that it can be different for other women.
I never ever ever weigh myself while I'm on my period and I try not to right before. Water weight is a bitch! One thing I hate is the PMS cravings--that in itself makes me feel like a cow. But since I started my diet it seems like my weigh-in after my period always brings about a 1 pound loss--surprisingly! I know I'm about to start, cause I've been having the cheese and chocolate cravings all week! Let's keep our fingers crossed that the pattern that has developed follows through this month! ![]()
So, all of last week the scale was stuck, same number every damn day! I was so frustrated I thought "what am I doing wrong?" Then finally yesterday it moved down .5 lbs and then this morning Aunt Flo arrived and I was down another .5 lbs!! Soooo for me I guess I just get stuck the week before my period and then start losing again as normal.
I'm with madisonashlix3, I try and avoid the scale at all costs and I usually wait 2 days after its all over. I don't want to mess with my head anymore than what its going through during those days lol. If I had to estimate I'd probably say I go up 3-5 lbs just on how my clothes fit differently. I try and drink more water than I usually do too.
