Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone!  I am new to CC and have made the New Year's Resolution to lose weight!

I am a 37 year old female, 5'5" at 179!  I am the mother of two teenagers, 16 and 14.  I work full time, go to college and spend most of my time going to my kids sporting events.

I have made every excuse in te world for not losing weight, and I am done!!!  I want to lose 44 lbs and get down to a healthy 135!  I am not trying to drop this weight over night, but over the next year.

I am looking for other ladies over 30 that would like to support each other in meeting their goals in 2008!!

 Please let me know!!!

Thanks for looking into it, funny it always feel nice when other root for us even if we are doing it for ourselves! I don't think you are crazy, but a TRIATHALON, I am envious!

Main thing is that you felt good when you worked out, I think its that feeling that keeps us going for the next day, etc.

Weather here is absolutely miserable, ice all morning, now rain and WIND! So much fun, its that weather that makes you want to curl up and eat nice fattening comfort food! Wink

Hi everyone - so sorry I have been MIA this week. I am back at work and it's absolutely crazy hectic. I've been eating horribly too due to stress and just not enough time in the day. I hate that you have to pay such a price for taking a few days of vacation, dealing with all the headaches when you get back :(

Hope everyone is doing well! Amy

Amy, I feel for you...there were times I wondered if it was worth taking the time off with the fires that I had to put out when I came back...and that was with everything completely left in the right hands Wink. Try and take a deep breath, I used to walk around a couple of blocks from the office to clear my head and get away from the vending machines.  Maybe that will help?

Remember, its just a day and tomorrow is a new one!

Angie

Hi, Can I join?   I'm 30 have about 70lbs to lose.  I work full time and have a 5yr daughter and 2yr son.  I am new to this site, and I really like it.

--Kynabug,   I have a huge coke cola problem.  I am working hard on breaking it.  I've started drinking tea instead, I have a new love for hot tea, especially since it's so cold outside.  (i've always loved iced tea).

I'm 37 and need to lose all the weight I gained last year.  Last Oct I was a size 6 and I've ballooned up to a size 12/14!!

I haven't ready everyone's posts, but I am also going to Disney w/ my kids this spring and don't want to be this FAT!!

Count me in!!

Emm and sky are in!!  Check back throught the posts for weigh in instructions!!  I have added you as buddies and please do the same for me.

Kids have kept me busy the last couple of days so I have not been on here like I wanted.  We have a huge wrestling match tomorrow and there is always so much junk food at the concession stands!  Yuck!!!

I am going to take a bag of snacks to tie me over.

I have found one of my biggest problems is serving portions.  I have been measuring everything out according to the labels and I was shocked at how much I was over estimating!!  I like to eat granola cereal and I know it is full of carbs, but it is so good!!!  Anyway, I used to pour it in the bowl add milk and eat!  I found out that I was eating four sometimes five servings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  No wonder my butt is huge!!!!!!!!!

So ladies, read those labels and measure your portions!!!!

Hatcher, love granola cereal....steer clear of it though cause I could just have bowl after bowl...I hear you though!

Hi! I'm a 37 year old mother of four (19, 9, 6 and 2).  I'm 5'8" and 219 (starting weight 240). I was always slim and fit until child #3 and then, well, I wasn't anymore.

I'm trying to get down to 160-180. My plan is to get down to 180 and then see how I look and feel. That's not unreasonably large for my build, it's about a size 14-16 for me and I'm happy there.

I worked up until last year and am taking until my littlest is in kindergarten before I go back to work. I donj't think being at home is help[ing my fitness level any, though!

I'm happy to friend anyone, especially around my own age! We're all in this together!

Thanks for the support irlmonet! It is nice to have support. I am a long way off from my triathalon, but someday! :) It IS a hard time of year to stay motivated. I live in Colorado and it was so cold these last few weeks all I wanted was bad stuff. I love spring when all the beautiful produce is out. That makes you want to eat healthy. :) I just started getting Cooking Light and they have some great recipes and they look like they can't possibly be low calorie but they are. I can't wait to start making some. :) I actually bought subscriptions for everyone in my family so we can swap recipes.

I got my first "f" last night. My husband was trying to be nice and brought McDonalds home for dinner. :( It put me way over my calorie goal but I was still under what I burned thank goodness because I had cut back so much during the day. I still managed to lose that pound I gained. So that is good.  Back at it today. Wish me luck. :) I hope everyone is doing good. :)

Hey emmgrr! I have a suggestion about the Coca Cola.  I am a recovering Coca Cola addict. I used to love Coca Cola. I would get one and savor it like a fine wine.  It was so yummy.  But I started to realize how many calories were in it and I knew I had to do something different.  I tried Coca Cola Zero but like Diet Coke it has Aspertame in it and still had that icky metallic aftertaste.  So then I tried Pepsi One and I love it and instead of Aspertame it has Splenda. It is still soda so I try to limit myself by making sure I drink 64oz. of water (then I am not all that thirsty). Now I think Coca Cola is too syrupy tasting. I just wish they had as a fountain option when we have to eat out. :) Tea is still a good option because of the antioxidants though. But if you still have cravings I Hope this helps.
Hey Hatcher187! Great idea to bring your own snacks! It would be tough to go to a match and eat healthy at a concession stand. I know what you mean about the cereal. I had eggs florentine the other day and it had less calories than my bowl of cereal did the next day. A lot less.  The serving size is a little ridiculous (3/4 of a cup).  That's like when sodas in the can used to say there were two servings in there. You can't save it for later - it will go flat. It's like political spin for food. :) Someone on the Today show yesterday said to think "deck of cards" for protiens and "tennis ball" for carbohydrates when you can't measure. :) Hope the match went well!
hey thanks for the ideas cmiller.   so far I've done ok with the coke, but today was not so good.  tomorrow's another day.  I did go to the gym today, although that has never been my problem I really like to workout!  I really dig the exercise high when I'm done.

Here are my stats.   I started on this past tuesday.  so i will weight in on tuesdays

I am 6'0 tall  30yrs old and live in Michigan.

Tues 1/1  230lbs.

I like to loss around 60-70lbs.

I think on this next tuesday i am also going to take measurements. and retake them in a month.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.

emm

Ooh, Ooh!  Can I join??

I'm 35, 5'7", and live in Iowa.

Last year, I weighed 287.

This year, I weigh 221.

I'd like to weigh 150 eventually, and the more weight I can lose by 2009, the better!  :)

I fell off the wagon for a while in Nov/Dec, but started back seriously working on eating healthily again on New Year's.  I'll be out of state and off email for a week later this month but would still really like to join!

No problem emmgrrr! I am like you I actually like to work out and I love the high you get afterwards (endorphines or knowing your butt will look better, something like that).  Talking myself into going is hard sometimes but once I do I feel great. My sister and I used to go hiking and on road trips and we decided that we are going to start doing that again. We just have to find some kid friendly stuff to do. :)

Good morning everybody! I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I am so excited I lost 3lbs. Woohoo! I managed to come within 40 calories of my calorie goal and it worked. I was very hungry by the end of the night though so I am thinking I might give myself a few more calories so I am less likely to binge but otherwise it's going pretty good so far and I am about 5lbs away from where I waas before I had Beau (9mos.). Yay! How is everybody else doing?

Hi I'm Shelle, a mother of 2 beautiful children 11 and 13. I'm new to all this weight loss stuff. I'm 34 and in the worst shape of my life. It wasn't til mid October, when my 11 year old son was diagonsed with type 1 diabetes that I realized I need to do something about my weight. How can I teach him to control his intake and eat healthy if I myself can't do it. So here I am, ready to start losing weight.  I am looking for support. Thanks You and Good Luck to All!

Hi,

I'm Laura and looking for buddies as well.  I'm 5'5" and weight 240.  I am very active but tired of lugging around enough weight to feed a starving country!  I'd love to be your buddy and gain others as well.  Please add me to your list.

I am so new, I can't even figure out how to add buddies.  I am most definitely over 30, with 27 pounds to lose.  Help me out ladies.  What do I need to do?
Hey everyone, I'm so excited I stepped on the scale this morning and was at 251. That's 9lbs since I started this adventure on News Years. It's great motivation and I just love reading everyones progress. I only got upset once this weekend and wanted to alert anyone who didn't realize this, to beware. I've really been watching what I eat and how much. But I have also made sure that I did not deprive myself of great tasting food. So I was out of town this weekend and was given the opportunity to go to one of my favorites, Chili's, yummmmm! Well like I said I'm not depriving myself, so instead of ordering the Country Fried Steak and mash potatoes with you know it pepper gravy, love, love, love, my 11 yr. old ordered it, I thought I was being good & ordered the steak and chicken quesadilla combo, I even took most of the cheese off & had no sour cream. I even left a little scattered on the plate. While being honest, I did take a couple of bites off my daughters plate. But anyway, when I came home and was doing my food log, OMG, look it up. I had blown my whole calorie intake for the whole day on what I had ordered by more than double. It was an awful feeling at first. My daughter was sitting next to me and saw what a few bites off of her plate had equaled to and even at 11, was aware that it was a lot. I explained the whole calorie in, calorie out, thing to her and she asked me if it was going to be okay. I had to explain to her what I believe will be the only way to be effective in this journey is, that yes it's okay but you can't eat this stuff all the time and if you want to eat it, just don't eat the whole thing, eat a salad and then split it with someone, like me! Some may ask, why didn't you choose from their health smart choices? Well, I like others, grew up on Mac n' cheese, hot dogs, Ravioli, and an occasional well balanced dinner with a God awful vegetable being shoved down my throat, like brussels sprouts or asparagus. I am extremely picky and have tried many different foods since then that I can't just stand and don't believe I will acquire a taste for. The point is, I truly hope that everyone realizes that even though you may want or even need a break it's okay. If I hadn't of had to explain it to my daughter and really think about an answer, I may not have realized it myself. I realized that I could of ordered a salad and just split that country fried steak with her. That would have been awesome. But you know what, I still ate food and I still lost weight, I will keep going. I hope all of you do to.
