Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone!  I am new to CC and have made the New Year's Resolution to lose weight!

I am a 37 year old female, 5'5" at 179!  I am the mother of two teenagers, 16 and 14.  I work full time, go to college and spend most of my time going to my kids sporting events.

I have made every excuse in te world for not losing weight, and I am done!!!  I want to lose 44 lbs and get down to a healthy 135!  I am not trying to drop this weight over night, but over the next year.

I am looking for other ladies over 30 that would like to support each other in meeting their goals in 2008!!

 Please let me know!!!

Last night I had a glass of water with juice from a lemon wedge and a teaspoon of splenda.  It was good like leamonade.  I think I will keep having that as my water.  YUM YUM

Welcome to everyone who joined yesterday! What a great group we have!

irlmonet: It sounds like you are doing a great job, don't beat yourself up over the grapes. Maybe you can find a way to still have them by cutting out something else? Or maybe by making them your only carbs? If you deprive yourself too much then it will be harder to stay on for the long haul, ya know? It sounds like you are working hard! Good job!

wannabefitter: You are so right.  I have a cheat day too. I thought about not logging calories at all so I won't feel guilty but then I would still like to know so I can see what the damage is so I can tweak it if I get totally out of control. I think complete deprivation is why a lot of diets fail or we gain the weight back eventually. The calorie counter really helps because it helps you realize what you've been doing wrong or just where you can do better. I love it and I don't feel guilty having a treat if I am under my calorie goal. It will be so strange after a year or so of eating 1400 calories to be allowed to eat within a normal person's calorie range. I feel preety good in the 1400 - 1600 range.  :)

emmgrr: Have you tried doing something with kids (maybe once a week)? That way you are teaching them to be healthy (a good thing in this technology era) and spending time with them. My kids do my workout with me (sometimes).  They especailly like the stretching part and I have to admit that a 5 year old doing jumping jacks is execellent comic relief! :)

I had a pretty good day yesterday. It's been hard to get a workout in because of all of the running around I've done for my son's birthday and my husband's friend coming over yesterday but next week should be calm and ready for my regular routine. I managed to stay under 1600 calories even with birthday cake so I feel pretty good and I am maintaining my 5lb weight loss. Tomorrow will be my cheat day because we are going out to lunch and probably dinner.  I like planning the cheat day in advance and that way I know that I need to stay on track the rest of the week. I hope everyone is doing good! Keep it up!

Hey Everyone!

&nb sp;       Today is my weigh in previous weight 275lbs

&nb sp;        Weight today 267lbs! I lost 7 pounds Im so happy!

Now I do have a couple questions and would like some advise on. I consume 1400 calories a day, how should I take them calories scatter them throughout the day or big dinner? Also, I work out after I get home from work then have dinner maybe  2 hours later should I exerice before or after dinner? I need some suggestions please!

My husband only lost 1 lb and hes a little unhappy but Im tellin him its a loss thats what matters. So if anyone has any advise I'll listen.

Welcome all the new people who joined and Good Luck to ALL!

We an do it!

hey everybody.  I hope everyone is doing well.

cmiller:  I do stretching at home everyday twice a day because of a bad back.  it helps my back muscles stay loose.  My kids love to do that with me, and it is a riot to watch them.  I hope your son has a great birthday party. It sounds like you are doing great.

have a great weekend

monkeymind: welcome to the club!  I am new to this site to it seems like a good one.  you should believe in yourself  because you can do it.  I feel the same way you do I know all the things I should do, but it just seemed I didn't do it.  I am using the site to be accountable to.

pouncer:  awesome job.  as for the calories you should spread them out to keep your metabolism up, I've read you should try to eat every three-four hrs. I think that can be tough to do sometimes, especially at work.  anyway keep up the great job.  I hope I can at least lose a pound this week, It's been a rough one for me.

Pouncer, it's so hard, at least for me, to eat most of my calories early on in the day, but this is what I've been told needs to happen especially if you eat a late dinner. I've tried to have dinner ready around 6 and it has seemed to help. I'll have a snack sometimes after dinner before I go to bed b/c I do get hungry. I found that those 100 calorie snack packs are really good or I'll eat a banana or something.

As long as you have ate enough throughout the day to maintain your status as you workout before dinner, that's great. I found out working out late gets me all wound up and I find it hard to go to sleep. So I try to do mine late afternoon.

cmiller7, I went to Applebees for lunch today and I thought okay this will be my cheat time but I got there and looked over their menu and didn't want to. I ordered their confetti chicken and replaced the rice and beans with a baked potato, it was great. It was listed under their weight watchers page and only had like 370 calories. I debated back and fourth on getting fried cheese but was strong. It felt good after I left. I honestly did not know what I was doing for dinner so I didn't want to blow it for the day. I just look at it like this, it will really have to be worth it to go over, I'm going to save it for Carrabas or Mexican.

Hatcher187 I did that to, I gained a pound and was a little upset but it came right back off. Gotta roll with the punches huh?

Oh, I'm pickin' today to be my accountable weigh-in

Dec. 31: 260lbs? Realistic Guesstimate

Jan. 6: 251lbs

Jan. 11: 249lbs

I'm so glad to be doing this with everyone and I'm glad to see that no one has givin up, even me. Let's keep going girls!

I would like to join this group as well. I am a 38 yo mother of 4 children 13,9,5 and 4.  I started around the 5th of Jan and would like to loose about 40lbs.  If this group is still open I would like to join.  I am looking for support to stay on the wagon and next year make it so it is not my new years resolution to loose weight.

hey pouncer!!

i spread my calories throughout the day, i've read and been told by my doctor that it keeps your metabolism going and doesn't bog your body down with a lot to digest all at once, which may result in storage of excess if it can't break it all down fast enouph. I had gestational diabeties with all three of my kids and that was recommended by the diabetic clinic. Let me know how things are going!

Pouncer

Good Job on the weight loss!!!  I think as far as when to eat and when to take the calories in depends on you.  I believe one must do what is best for ones self.  We are all different and I feel you have to tweek things that are best for you.

I have to lose 20 lbs at least.  30 would be better.  I haven't been eating just perfectly the past two days and I feel really bummed that I did that to myself.

I am dealing with an issue of being or feeling competitive with someone I hate.  It almost makes me feel like giving up when I hear she has joined a gym and going to weight watchers and taking pills.

I have to get that off my mind, I am doing this for me.  I cannot worry about if someone I hate is doing a good or bad job at getting thin.  I was quite enjoying her being fat though. Oh well, I am going to work hard and without pills and with a new lifestyle I will stay thin.  I know I can get down there to 130 b/c I have done it since babies and I will do it again and stay that way.
Do any of you other 30-somethings have periomenopause and if so how are you dealing with it?

I feel like I could be bipolar but I think it is all due to HORMONES from hell.

How is it affecting your weight loss?  daily life?

I just have more and more days of wanting to sit and do nothing.  I have to do something about this.
tlm1242:  I've had a similar issue with someone who I could't stand.  I'm a very competitive person.  She was doing a bunch of different stuff to try to get thin and talked all the time about what she was doing and maybe I should try her ideas and it drove me up a wall.  I finally realized that for me it wasn't all about getting thin.. it's about being healthy and trying to compete with her was just making me an angry person, so instead I kept telling myself good for her for trying to loss weight, stop trying to compare yourself.    I don't work with her anymore so that really helps. Stick to it. I know you can do it.  I know I can do it.  and with everyone's help here we will.     emm

Hey everyone, just stopping by before my workout and wanted to say thanks to all for everything. I will get this figured out. My son who is type 1 diabetic is so happy for me he and his 13 year old sister actually worked out with me.  Thye are having a blast and for thr first time my son told me how proud he was of me. I almost cried. I have to keep this up for all of us. So good luck all and have a good rest of the weekend.

It's been a tough week but down two pounds. I have been keeping track of all my calories and working out everyother day. I hate it and I just want to eat some chicken fired stake. Tongue out I am going to be good and trate myself once I am down 10 pounds. 8 pounds to go and chicken fried steak here I come.  : )

Good Work Tkosa!!  Just don't eat too much chicken fried steak.
Oh no, at a stand still with weight loss. I'll keep going though. I rode a bike for the first time since I was like 11. Nothing to do with the weight loss just feeling better about things, I guess. Daughter told me when I got on, "Mom I can't see your seat." Gotta love those kids huh! About that seat, could really use one of those butt cushions right about now. Hope everyone has had a great weekend.

Weigh  in today

I am new to CC. I am 38 years old married and have a 5 year old son. I am 5'9' and 180 pounds. I want to lose about 20 pounds ( although cc says ideally I should lose 30 pounds) I am not looking to be thin as I was in my teens and twenties, I just dont want to continue on this weight gaining road. The weight seems to have sneeked up on me over the years.

I really am not even too sure where to start.... i.e the right diet and excersise as I have not been overweight most of my life.

I think joining a support group will hep me achieve my goal ( the accountable factor)  I will make Tuesdays my weigh in day.

If there is still room for one more newbie, count me in!! I am 5'8" & 187 lbs age 39...I want to lose at least 30 lbs, more if I can (just trying to be logical LOL).

I have 2 children ages 20 & 15, both overweight as well, and I want to be able to say 'if I can do it so can you!' I have managed to lose it before, but i wasnt this heavy when I did, and obviously I wasnt able to keep it off!! I have a very hard time sticking to anything as far as exercising/strength training, but I am really going to try this time.

My motivation: I am getting married in June & I NEED some of this weight off to fit into my dress!!!!

Adding you all as buddies, hope you will add me too.
