For the ladies- thigh rubbing problem anyone?

Quote  |  Reply
I was reading a post from earlier today where soemone mentioned Thigh rubbing as an issue, an dmany others chimed in saying they had this problem as well. I've been dealing w/ it since I was about 8, and now at 33- i wear skirts and dresses exclusively, so I consider myself and expert in this area. there are several things that can be done to help this problem- I'll separate into 2 categories- Summer and Winter.

Summer: buy thigh shapers from lane bryant, Avenue, or any retailer that has some- i think just my size has some, but never tried them. try different brands to find the most comfortable ones for you. I personally prefer the avenue brand, but find the lane bryant brand is better for walking- since they dont ride up! you can even get skirt liners- they're like pantyhose styled shorts- romans catalog sells them. If you're not large enough to shop in these specialty stores- then good for you! sike. try baby powder- but be warned- doesnt last long on hot days- thats best reserved for spring and fall.

Winter: PANTYHOSE! Wear them daily- ok, so your can hear the whish whoose sound of them when your thighs rub- but thats better than the alternative. and Opaque tights for when it gets colder. Avenue has some great tights.

If all else fails- regular biker shorts will do, but they can feel a bit uncomfortable under a dress, so try some of these other products.

things to consider- if your thighs are really big- make sure whatever product you choose has a long enuf leg- you dont wanna be tugging on it all day. Also- if you wear a lotta dresses or skirts like me- you'll need a fair number of these items, they should be changed daily- like underwear. If you rewear them a lot- they'll wear out fast- the elastic around the thigh can get loose, and once that happens, its over. well happy shopping!

Use your antiperspirant and apply liberally on the inside of each thigh.  Works like a charm and lasts all day!
One word, baby, Vasaline! Im telling you, I had a friend in high school who had that problem, and we tried about a million things, baby powder, lotion, panty house, but that Vasaline kept her legs from chaffing!
I'm totally sold on A&D Ointment.  It nourishes the skin at the same time it helps with the chaffing.  Brand or Generic, doesn't matter and a tube lasts forever.
if you are willing to shell out a few dollars, i recommend SPANX brand body shapers/slimmers/whatever you want to call them! check out nordstrom.com, they have a ton on-line... and, just fyi, when nordstrom is having a sale, they always mark the SPANX down!

Try "Bodyglide" found at sports stores.  I works great for running.  Leave no mess.

Hmmm- I 'd think that any cream- like product would feel icky and stain my clothes. I've seen spanx, but havent seen them in my size- unfortunately.
Don't those shapers make your muscles weaker over time?
Heck no! i could only see that happening if you were wearing them 10 sizes too small! shapers are the new generation of undergarments. not restrictive like girdles.
I just wanted to tell you that my sister and I picked up a name for that uncomfortable sensation.

CHUB RUB!!

What I find works best no matter what (and no extra layers needed) is Monistat anti-chaffing gel.  It's basically like a silicone makeup primer (but much cheaper) and it makes your skin silky smooth so chaffing is a non-issue.  If you are worried about stains from it (never happened to me) just let it sink into the skin a couple minutes before dressing.

Anyone have any tricks to prevent pants from wearing out in that area?  I blow through pants like there is no tomorrow.

And no!  I'm not going to wear a skirt while I'm out walking the dog after dark.

I try to "maintain" my pants by using one of those pill razors on the thigh area.  I think it's slowed the wearing out on my cords but I don't have a permanent solution either.  Frown

sorry but can i ask what a pill razor is?

It's another name for a sweater shaver.
