she`s a very nice lady, and very easy to deal with, but she`s either so distracted that she can`t process the written word (menopause maybe; she`s about the right age) or she`s just a moron.

she has told me repeatedly that the best way to communicate is via email.  cool, works for me.  but she regularly ignores, misunderstands, or just doesn`t get stuff.  she doesn`t answer questions, and she doesn`t know things that i`ve told her clearly (and sometimes repeatedly).

this morning i emailed her to ask if she could hold my rent cheque until the first friday of the month, july 3, as that`s when payroll is deposited.  i asked her to do this for the next two months; after that, i think i`ll have enough in reserve to cover the rent on the first, regardless of when payday falls.

that`s clear enough, isn`t itÉ (sorry. my question mark has gone berserk again).

so i get home from my walk and picking up a few things and get her response: she thinks iève (my appostrophe has gone berserk, too) asked her to hold july and augustès cheques until september.  not only that, sheès going to think about it until monday.

christ on a cross.  what a friggen moron.

maybe your question and quotation marks have caused some kind of epileptic fit whenever she reads an e-mail from you - I find myself twitching a little as we speak

nah.  that only happens on CC.

pg: and what if she does have something wrong with her, it's not nice to call her a retard, seriously...and your a social worker???

your landlady called to ask me why you are paying your september bill in july and your august bill in september, and if she should charge an additional storage fee.

Perhaps you should just not give her the check until the 3rd, and avoid the confusion.

lys, she has a year's worth of post-dated cheques.  i think she doesn't want me to know where she lives....

booster, get a sense of humour.  she's a working, functioning, property-owning adult; if there's "something wrong with her" that would make communication easier, she should tell me.

Yikes! Where did that come from? Seriously, isn't the lounge the place we vent about crap? Besides that, she didn't call her a retard.... she just thinks she MAY be.

She called her a moron though. Hey, I say call a spade a spade. Tell it like it is, hon.

PG, fix your key board! Click on the little keyboard in the corner of your screen, (task bar) and change the language back to US.

I'm not sure I get what you're getting at.

You know that post-dating a check has no legal significance whatsoever, right?

So what, does she come by your place to pick up the check or something?

pg - it's possible the cheque wouldn't clear until past the 3rd anyways...mine never clears until somewhere around the 8th.

otherwise - i second the notion of waiting to give her the cheque until the 3rd.  hopefully that will save her some confusion...  but that does sound painful.

my landlady is like, 95 years old (seriously).  about 4'5'' and german.  hilarious.  but she also blames everything that goes wrong on my apartment being old.  i think i already ranted this to you before, so i'm shutting up now...

Tell that to my bank.  If I try to cash or deposit a check that's been post-dated, they won't touch it.

i wrote 12 cheques, dated for the first of each month for the next year, and i gave them all to her.  she, in turn, gave them to her bank, because she works for a cruise line and is out of the city/country more than 50% of the time.

 exactly.  because they legally can't.

it's all good.  she understands now.

yeah, your landlady sounds way worse than mine Wink.

Banks can pay on postdated checks anytime unless you have given them a specific notice of postdating.  It's a lot like stop-payment order.  If they do not, they are only doing it as a courtesy, not because there is anything legally binding in the postdating.

lys - are you in the states?

cuz me and PG are both in canada.  and i work for a bank.

edit: and PG - my landlady is the sweetest woman of all time.  she's just got to stop blaming the fact that my building is old on everything that goes wrong.  hell, i was shocked that when my ceiling collapsed (yes, it collapsed) that she didn't react with "it's an old building"...

thanks for the law lesson, lys, but it's not necessary.  besides, entirely different country here, with our very own laws.
